Fall is here

Autumn is reaching peak colors here in southern NH. This past week has been a lot of alternating between very rainy days and beautiful sunny days. When the sun does come out, the colors are sweet. I'm always saddened that it doesn't last for very long.

Russell and Will came over for a pizza dinner on Thursday evening. They got to wear the kids out, or is it vice-versa?

Michelle is painting the upstairs kids' bathroom a light purple, lavender color. It's a nice change from the neutral tan that it had been.

One of the things I didn't know about having a sprinkler system is that you need to clear the water supply lines before winter so that the underground hoses don't rupture. Dube Landscaping, the folks who installed our system, came by this morning to purge the lines. It was pretty neat to watch. They force compressed air through the system. 25 heads at a time went off and with some major force!

I'm taking Claire and Abby to see a play of Winnie the Pooh in Nashua this afternoon. I feel bad, though, that Michelle will be home alone with the boys during that time.

I got to ride a Segway yesterday. My coworker, Grace, is married to another engineer who works at DEKA. I guess that they offered to sell their employees Segways at a pretty decent discount. It was pretty neat. The hardest part is getting the knack of getting on. It's self balancing so there tends to be a bit of oscillation initially as you and the machine transition for control of who's balancing whom.

We're thinking of picking up a second computer at the house. Claire and Abby are often on this one and I'd rather not feel isolated in another room when I'm editting emails, photos, and webpages. The current front runner is an entry level iBook with a wireless internet adaptor.
