PA traffic jam

Posted by Scott at 06:26 AM

As you can read in several news sites, there's a huge traffic jam in parts of Pennsylvania. My folks are stuck in the middle of this. They spent most of the day yesterday going nowhere. Even when they got off the highway, the hotels were all full. The last news I heard was that they were going to stay in their van through the night (with single digit overnight lows) and try to find an alternative route in the morning. Pray for their safety.

I'll update this once I have more news.

[Update: 10am] I spoke with my folks on my commute into the office today. They made it through the night sleeping in their minivan. At 6am this morning they got a fresh breakfast, filled up with fuel, and got onto the highway away from the congestion by means of some secondary roads. At that point the roads were clear and moving at typical highway speeds. They should arrive at our house this afternoon.

[Update: next morning] Mom and dad made it here around 4pm yesterday afternoon. They couldn't get over how different driving was for them the next day. It was smooth sailing by comparison. Dad says he slept like a baby last night. "You don't appreciate how nice a warm bed is until you've slept in your van in 4°F weather." I'll bet!

Thanks for the update!
