Short Updates

Posted by Scott at 08:53 PM

Good morning all! After some initial hiccups, I got Google's "Go" built/installed on my MacBook. Time to stop geekin', get up, and get the girls off to school. (related link) 6:18am

After I dropped the girls off at school, Michelle dropped the boys off and head to a Step class. I'm VPN'd into work today, expecting a bit of a backlog after having yesterday off for Veteran's Day. 8:48am

Back from a Step Circuit class. Doing better but would be happier if I could shake this cough. 6:55pm

Abby and the boys are enjoying "Up". We saw it at the theater months ago, but it's good another time on DVD. 7:04pm

Finally trying out Google Wave. (related link) 7:43pm

Snarkiest (and funniest) political line I've heard today: "The only thing Obama can stimulate is Chris Matthews." 8:50pm

Bookmarks I made today:

Bolt Interactive Pet Laser Toy
Comment: DEFINITELY ordering later today. $20. Oh Jingle... Belle... Snickers... come here... ;-P
Excerpt: This little device a sophisticated piece of feline-laser technology that your cat will love. It dances a laser beam dot around the floor for your cat to chase but never catch. We suppose you could call it the lazy solution to playing with your cat, but we happen to think it's just more advanced than...

John Stossel 20/20 - Sick in America
Comment: A YouTube playlist (6 parts) of John's episode about two years ago where he discusses health care issues here and in more socialized countries. I listened to it while working through my morning email...
Excerpt: The Case for Putting Individuals, Not Employers or Government, in Control of Health Care

Be A Man! Becoming the Man God Created You to Be
Comment: Read the first couple of chapters last night and it was excellent. Highliy, highly recommended so far. Also available via Amazon at http://amazon.com/dp/1586174037/ or at Ignatius Press http://ignatius.com/ .
Excerpt: Men are rediscovering the importance of the spiritual life. And Father Larry Richards is helping them do it. While some writers apply a one-size-fits-all approach to the Christian life, Father Richards draws on his many years of ministry and his own experience as a man to inspire other men as men.

How to Converse Continually and Familiarly with God : St. Alphonsus Liguori
Comment: Arrived in today's mail. Short (~70 pages) and sweet by one of the great Doctors of the Church, St. Alphonsus Liguori. Recommended to me by Lisa 'Franciscat'.
Excerpt: St. Alphonsus Liguori teaches us how to speak personally and with confidence in prayer to God, who, the Saint says, will not speak to us unless we first speak to Him.

The real reality of raising eight kids
Comment: A positive story (and video) at CNN. And like Michelle, the mom teaches fitness classes several times a week. The comment section (as often happens) is a mix of "that's awesome!" and "don't you care about the environment/overpopulation?"
Excerpt: But what fascinates people the most is that this slender, bubbly, auburn-haired fitness instructor is the mother of four boys and four girls,...
