Short Updates

Posted by Scott at 10:23 PM

Good morning! It's a chilly 28°F here in Milford on this Veterans Day. A sincere thanks to all of our veterans of military service. The kids have off today. I'll soon be heading into work. 6:11am

Android once again dominates smartphone ratings by Consumer Reports. Hard to believe when the T-Mobile G1 came out with the first Android phone just a couple of years ago, folks looked at it and thought the iPhone had nothin' to worry about. 6:14am

The Placebo Effect Not Just On Drugs : "In most elevators installed since the early 1990s, the 'close door' button has no effect. Similarly, many office thermostats are dummies. More than 2,500 of the 3,250 "walk" buttons in New York intersections do nothing." Interesting. They're there just to stop the complaints. 6:18am

HEX Watch Band - It's a watch. No, it's an iPod Nano. No... it's both. Perfect for the Apple gadget fanboy in your life. 6:19am

Why I love Emacs more than girls - While I don't agree, I did get a good nerdy laugh out of it. 6:43am

Good news. As I was finishing up my breakfast, I got a text from my boss recommending that I work for home (or WFH, as we say) since the rest of the hardware team was taking today off or working from home because of the holiday. 8:06am

Michelle is taking 6 kids to see "Megamind" at Cinemagic. I'm jealous. I'm debugging OpenGL depth textures. Not. Nearly. As. Exciting. 11:31am

Mother TeresaAfter dinner I head over to Golds for the muscle core class. Always happy to come home with that bit of muscle fatigue all over. 8:02pm

“To keep a lamp burning, we have to keep putting oil in it.” – Mother Teresa 8:04pm

Time to install the Mac Snow Leopard 10.6.5 Update and reboot. 8:17pm

Refreshing my memory about how to run Ubuntu Desktop within the Amazon EC2 "cloud". Just because. 8:51pm

Well, after a few failed attempts, I'm giving up with my EC2 tinkering tonight. I can launch instances in the cloud, but I can't connect graphically via FreeNX like I should be able to. While I'm a big user of the command line, I wanted to see the "eye candy" of the graphical user interface running somewhere out there "in the cloud". 10:19pm

Is tomorrow already Friday?! It can't be. I've got too much stuff left to get working right! It's supposed to be nice weather Friday and Saturday. So for now... Good night all! 10:20pm
