The Best of Plans... Dashed

Posted by Scott at 11:59 PM

Good morning! I was thinking I might need to work from home today, but it looks like our upcoming snow storm will be overnight from 9pm to 6 o'clock tomorrow. Last night I think I saw about five minutes of television before I zonked out. I slept pretty sound. I'm hoping I can catch a workout tonight. Work and home commitments have kept me out all week. 6:12am

Anyone else getting spam that gets past your filters by leveraging stupid spacing? Examples: "Free domFro mHi gh- pri cedCap sul esItem s", "Pi llsCom pan ySto re sAGrea tItemSel ecti on". Well, that and they all appear to have come from hijacked HotMail accounts. I would just block HotMail, but my dad uses it for his email. Perhaps I can write some elaborate rule whitelisting him but blacklisting all other HotMail email... 6:22am

In this morning's email I got an invitation from an Apple recruiter. They are looking for ASIC design verification engineers in the Boston area. That's certainly my role now, but I'm not sure I'm interested in jumping ship. 6:25am

Dropped the girls off at their schools and drove into Boxborough. 'Twas 0°F near the schools but 11°F by the time I got to the office. Michelle called me just before I dropped off Claire to tease me that I'd forgotten my coffee travel mug, so I stopped at the Brookline Village Store for a quick coffee and a couple of donuts. I listened to more of "Life of Mary" along the drive. This morning's chapters: Jesus' carrying of his cross through the Pentecost. I might be able to wrap this book up on tonight's return commute. 9:17am

Despite my hopes for hitting the gym tonight, I later remembered that I had a 4 o'clock conference call with San Diego that let out at 5. By that time the snow had started in Boxborough so I needed to brush off the car and the roads were slow the entire way. On the mixed news side, I got a call along the way saying the RCIA would not meet tonight. It frees up my evening but makes my preparation of the Readings feel as though I'm the only one who benefitted. I finished up the audiobook "Life of Mary" along the trip, hearing "this concludes the reading of..." just as I got to our house. What timing! 6:48pm

The boys are getting ready for bed. Like all the children, they're wishing they knew what the school situation is tomorrow. School cancelled? School delayed? Since the snow is supposed to be over by early morning, I'm guessing a 2 hour delay. Either way, I'm pretty sure I'm waking up to a snow blowing event. 8:02pm
