Mac Memory Lane

Posted by Scott at 10:10 PM

Good morning! I dropped the girls off at their schools and head to the office. I offered up the Sorrowful Mysteries today for my mom's health. In the middle of 'em I got a couple of text messages saying she went back to the hospital early that morning. Despite all of the time spent earlier this week, the breathing issues weren't going away and she is back. I wrapped up my prayers and listened to yesterday's readings and homily via EWTN podcasts the rest of the way. 8:35am

Waiting in line at the Apple Store for an iPad 2. Just kidding. I'm at work debugging a subtle aspect of our bilinear filter. It's a little more exciting. ;-P Yeah right! 10:18am

Been a bit anxious this morning. My mom went back to Loyola hospital early this morning and is now about to have a tracheotomy. These breathing and congestion issues have been going on since last autumn. 11:07am

Went out for lunch (a tuna sub) with four AMD guys to New London Pizza. 1:11pm

Microsoft DirectCompute vs. the industry OpenCL... Must Microsoft always have their own proprietary version of what the industry already has? 1:27pm

Tell me how much my boys would like a subscription to Phineas & Ferb magazine. "I know what we're gonna do today!" 2:49pm

Weekly status written, hours logged, sync'd up with my boss, and submitted my last test updates for the week. Time to wrap it up for the week... 6:26pm

Wikipedia link to its history Smooth drive home amidst very foggy weather. I called my dad to check on how mom's surgery went today and then listened to Patrick Madrid the rest of the way home. When I got home I learned that Michelle's two fitness classes went well today, but her appointment with the surgeon did not happen today. Claire is having a sleepover and I'm about to pick up a cheese pizza. I'm just not in the mood for a PB and J sandwich. 7:57pm

On my drive home today I was remembering my first Mac, the MacPlus that I had in early grad school. Michelle and I saved up and I upgraded it to maximum capacity of 4 megabytes. This weekend, for far less money, Timothy and I are going to upgrade my MacBook to 4 gigabytes of memory. In ~20 years we've had a >1024x explosion in the density of a stick of memory. 8:01pm

Got a 19" cheese pizza from Sal's. Tucked the boys in bed with their prayers and later watched a couple of tech video podcasts on TiVo. Good night all! 9:59pm
