Goodbye Windows XP

There's been a lot of jokes told about Chicago's Marilyn Monroe statue. Turns out it does have some uses when it rains out... 5:58am

Dr. Who fandom: Loved this video of River Song from her own timeline perspective, ie. not in line with his own. And no, I still haven't seen the season 6 finale! 6:05am

Dropped the girls off at their schools. Had a rainy commute into Boxborough, listening to This Week in Tech #321 along the way. 9:13am

Cleaned up laptop. Removed all source code already in revision control. Removed all intermediate build files and libraries. Removed simulation logs. Emptied the trash. Now working on my tower for the rest of the day. 10:22am

Replaced the ear pads on my old Sennheiser headphones. The old ones were literally falling apart. The new ones make it look like new. 10:23am

YES! Neal Stephenson's Reamde is finally available at Audible.com! There went another credit... ;-] 10:23am

Interesting Linux Hack for web browsing: the Firefox RAMdisk. All the temporary intermediate stuff stored in RAM and only sync'd to the hard drive periodically and at logout. 10:25am

Had to stay late at work. My laptop didn't come back until a little after 5 o'clock and I wanted to make sure everything would be ready to work from home tomorrow. The VPN, the VOIP stuff, email, the remote access stuff, etc. Tomorrow I'll have to install CMake, Cygwin, and ActiveState Perl. But it's not critical as long as RemoteDesktop is working... Finally I can go home. It's too late to go to the Opus Dei evening I had hoped for. 6:45pm

Yet another drive in the rain home. Listened to more of "The Diamond Age" along the drive. Caught up with Michelle on her treatment and visit with her radiologist today. Only a week and a half left to go and so far so good. 9:07pm
