Winter teasing us

Posted by Scott at 03:00 AM

Near record temps - Yesterday it was hard to believe we were only a few days from the new year. The temperatures outside were in the low 60's in the early afternoon. While that may be no big deal for California or Florida, it's quite unusual for New Hampshire at this time of year when the normal high would be 35°. I'm sure that weather karma will compensate for this in a few weeks, but it was nice to have a brief reprieve from winter.

It was nice like that Sunday as well. The kids and I used that opportunity to do a bit of sledding in the back yard before all the snow melted off the hill. Claire learned how to sled diving down "face first" onto the snow tube. At first she was a bit nervous but she kept saw me running and diving into the tube like a crazy papa during my turns and decided to try it. Once she did, she loved it!

Computer peripherals - Yesterday I picked up a USB external floppy drive from AKDI in Milford. While I was there I also picked up a UPS for the iMac. We occasionally have minor power outages in Milford. Since the iMac is powered up 24/7 (although often in sleep mode), the occasional power outages weren't helping the operating system and the file system. Anyway, I was able to use the floppy drive to take downloaded MIDI files from the computer and play them on our piano. It was a lot simpler than cabling the two together and trying to transfer the MIDI file. Finally, a simple way to move music data back and forth between the two! And just when I was starting to believe that "the floppy is dead"... *grin*

Lab work - I have a physical coming up in a few weeks. Yesterday I went in for the lab work. It amazes me that at my age I still feel more comfortable if I look away when nurses stick me with a needle. As far as avoiding "woozy-ness", it doesn't help that they have you fast from the night before. Luckily I had a morning appointment so my stomach wasn't grumbling too loudly.

Mmm.. The power of chocolate - A couple of times this past week we've found chocolate drool streaming out of Timothy's mouth. When we do a sweep of his mouth, we find remnant foil wrappers from Hershey's kisses. It's hard to believe that this same boy who only a month ago would sometimes cough just trying to eat a soggy Cheerio sees no problem with downing a Hershey's kiss without removing the wrapper! At this age he gets into anything that isn't out of his reach! Anyway, it makes for colorful diapers down the road...

Colorful diapers, yuk! Did I ever tell you about the kids at the YWCA? Escpecially the boy who liked to eat strings of fabric? or the girls who found a co-workers acryllic finger nail on the ground? Those made for some fun diapers. I hate changing diapers! I will NEVER get used to it!

I am down at school right now. I had to come in for a few days to help out, hence, my internet access right now. I did buy myself a modem for Christmas. Hopefully Chris will install it for me so I can have internet from my apartment!
Take care!
