Timothy 2.0

Posted by Scott at 07:05 AM

Timothy - Yesterday was Timothy's second birthday. I was reviewing some pictures from last year's birthday. He's only gotten bigger and more curious.

Blase - Yesterday was also the feast of St. Blase. Michelle and I try to get the twins to Mass at least one day during the week in lieu of Sunday Mass. Yesterday was the first time I tried to take both at the same time. I was worried that they might "feed" off of each other and start talking or misbehaving. Dad came with me so that we would have "man on man" defense. As is typical on St. Blase, throats were blessed. The boys found that neat -- a ceremony in the middle of Mass that they could be involved in.

Blue Collar Tour - Last night we watched "Blue Collar Comedy Tour". Having spent most of my life in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Ohio, I enjoyed it. Dad also sent me Jeff Foxworthy's "you might live in Wisconsin". Some jokes resonate with New England living, but it would be funny to poke some fun at uniquely Yankee unsophistication.

If you pass two or more combo gas station/Dunkin Donuts on the way to work, you might live in New England.
If you have high speed broadband, but have regular visits from the local septic, propane, or heating oil guy, you might live in New England.
If you take your cah to the Honder Dealuh, you might live in New England.
If you wouldn't dream of owning a mere single stage snowthrower, you might live in New England.
If you spend $100/month on cable but are too frugal for TiVo because of it's $10/month subscription fee, you might live in New England.
If your "season pass" to the town's swimming pool lasts only two months, you might live in New England.

I admit that I'm no where near as funny, but I'm sure given time, we could come up with some good "New England-isms".

Comments

I forgot to mention: Timothy was a bit sick on his birthday and still is today. He has what Daniel had a few days ago -- an illness marked predominantly by lethargy. No stomach problems, no sinus, just extra naps and a lot of lying around.

The one about the TiVo subscription fee made me chuckle.

It never ceases to amaze me how many co-workers have expensive entertainment center setups, satellite and/or cable, and yet just WILL NOT buy a TiVo because of its nominal monthly service fee. It's less than the cost of one CD purchase per month. Cell phones, sure. Broadband, certainly. Cable or satellite (or both), fine. TiVo, no way! I just don't get it... To me TiVo is easily more valuable than hi-def television. The ability to watch when I want, to fast forward through "content", to pause live tv, etc. easily trumps increased resolution or screen size.
