Auf wiedersehen

Posted by Scott at 06:51 AM

Visit ends - The visit by mom and dad ended on Thursday. Thursday was their original planned departure. They then thought of postponing due to a Nor'easter that was supposed to hit us. When we woke up Thursday and found warmer temperatures had reduced much of the precipitation to rain, they went with their original plan. I have some fun pictures from the visit, both from my camera and dad's. If I get a some spare time this weekend, I'll make an album.

Storm - Man! Thursday did turn out to be sloppy. The results varied throughout New Hampshire but around Nashua it rained until around noon. Then it turned into gianormous snowflakes. By 2 o'clock there was about an inch of wet slop all over the place. Accumulations never amounted to much but overnight it froze. Luckily it's going to be warm over the next few days so our driveways should melt.

Movies - We watched Shark Tale late this week. I had taken Claire to see it at the theater many months ago, but this gave Michelle and Abigail a chance to see it. I had forgotten that it had a brief piece of this song I had been looking for. I found out it's Elvis' "A Little Less Conversation (the JXL remix)" (this link only works if you have iTunes running). I had first heard it a few seasons ago because it was the song played immediately after Robert and Amy's "first wedding dance" on Everybody Loves Raymond's season finale of 2003. They played this song and broke into a dance style reminiscent of John Travolta and Uma Thurman in "Pulp Fiction". Considering Amy's otherwise quiet upbringing and demeanor, it was quite funny! In Shark Tale this song is played while Oscar "the Shark Slayer" is faking a staged shark fight with Lenny while the reef and other sharks watch in amazement.

Last night Michelle and I watched the first half of "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow". It had very mixed reviews, but I'm enjoying it. Stylistically, it's very retro, and yet it's highly computer rendered. It's a bit of a blend of Indiana Jones done in a film noir style. If nothing else, it's unique.

Piano - We're going to head to the YMCA this morning. After the workout I'll take the girls swimming for a bit. At 1 o'clock Claire will be in her first piano recital. [Update: 6PM] Claire did great. Abby did not go swimming because she left her bag at home. No suit, no towel, no swimming... Sorry, Ab's.

Maps - Have you tried Google Maps yet?! My goodness! As they did with search engines, they have again raised the bar. Excellent use of Javascript and DHTML with all the speed of Google. If Mapquest doesn't catch up soon, they are toast.

Super Biliks - I'll close with this picture of the boys drawn by TJ. Thanks, T!

Thanks for a great time in Hew Hampshire! The trip home was good. However, the hotel we stayed at in DuBois, Pa was really cold! We won't stay at that hotel again. It is always good to get back home but it will take a few days before I am ready for a long drive again. All of the snow is gone here and so is the factory behind our house. Before long, a 24-unit Condo will be going up there. More people, more traffic and more congestion!!!

Have a great weekend and thanks again for a great time!
