Grammys

Grammys - I didn't watch the Grammys, but then, I rarely watch award shows. Apple's iTunes Music Store has many of the albums nominated for Grammy awards. When I went to look at the five nominated for Album of the Year, two of the five were marked with the red "explicit lyrics" label. Sigh. Thankfully, Ray Charles, winner in this and many categories, has no need for such warning.

The Notebook - Michelle just returned upstairs after watching the DVD of The Notebook. She said she was grateful she didn't see it in a theater. If she had, she would have been embarrassed from crying in a public theater. From her description of the ending, I can see why. Not only is it sort of a "chick flick", but it's a real tear jerker as well.

Taxes - While Michelle was watching the DVD in the next room, I got started computing our taxes with TurboTax. I was a bit nervous because the employer transition last year messed with my Social Security withholdings and my 401(k). I knew I paid too much SSI and could only contribute (read: shelter) half the usual 401(k). It was hard to know if the two would cancel each other out or if we'd owe a bunch this year. I got the basics entered but not the charitable giving. Yet, even without the charitable writeoffs, we break even. Whew! If all goes well, I'll finish them up tomorrow night when Michelle goes to a Lenten mission at St. Patricks.

Nintendo and Palm - Rumors have been flying around the internet because Nintendo bought a Palm OS license. Combined with recent trademark filings by Nintendo, the speculation is that they will offer a cartridge that will give the DS handheld the capabilities of a Palm PDA. Some have already begun to degrade Nintendo since they insist the DS is focused on gaming and not multimedia (like the upcoming handheld Playstation). Personally I think it would be very cool to see this added to the DS. You see a lot of Palm functionality being added to so called "smart phones", why not the DS? It's got the processor, the touch screen, wireless connectivity, etc. And it would certainly have better games than Palm handhelds! I could see a lot of 20 and 30 somethings buying it instead of lugging around a separate Palm Zire series (their low end consumer models). I hope that they do build it, despite what the gaming purists say.

Exercise - As I often do, I went to the Y at lunch. One of the songs we exercised to was The Wiseguys' "Start the Commotion". (Get up, get up, put your body in motion) It's a great song to work out to, but I couldn't help but feel like I should be driving a Mitsubishi Eclipse instead.... Ah, the power of advertising... ruining a fun song.

Veggies - It looks like the Veggietales creators are working on another new title, "Duke and the Great Pie War". Looks cute.
