Short Updates

Posted by Scott at 09:02 PM

Back from Mass and breakfast. It's still overcast out but the rain has stopped. The sun should come out later to redeem this last day before school starts. A few of the ladies at church were teasing Michelle that she should break out champagne tomorrow -- the first day all five kids are in school. She didn't mention that she has a Step class to teach tomorrow morning while they're in school. 8:44am

While Michelle & the girls are grocery shopping, the boys & I have been getting a kick out of watching little Snickers try to assert himself near the 3-4x bigger Jingle. He jumps near Jingle in mock toughness and Jingle just patiently bats him away. "Get away from me kid, you're bothering me..." Considering how I've seen Jingle go after rodents, I'm amazed at his restraint thus far. 9:44am

It is a perfect afternoon to sit on the front porch, enjoy a good book, and sip some quality coffee. 3:47pm

Enjoying an end-of-summer dinner with Michelle and the kids at Chili's. 5:03pm

Watched the first "Men in Black" (1997) with Claire and the boys. Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, a classic. So many good lines from that movie! The kids are all in bed, prep'ed to start school tomorrow. Even Mighty Timbo this year! Good night all. 8:28pm

The Rise and Fall of the Dollar: 1800-2009
Comment: It's a bit of an eye chart but interesting... [via the Mises Institute]

Avoiding the Crucifix
Comment: Interesting reflection on the trend of Catholic churches to replace the Crucifix with a plain cross or a "Risen Christ".
Excerpt: There is no point at all in trying to pretty up a crucifixion. Perhaps having supposed that the elimination of suffering is the aim of life and of morality, we are confused by the suggestion that Christ desires to suffer, that His purpose in life was to die for us.

Missing Sync helps Palm OS users with Snow Leopard transition
Comment: Important news: if you have a Palm, a Treo, or a Centro (like us), the ancient Palm Desktop tools will no longer run under Snow Leopard. You will need to use the third party app, Missing Sync.
Excerpt: If you're using a Palm OS-based PDA or smartphone and you plan to upgrade to Snow Leopard, you're going to need third-party software if you plan to synchronize your Mac data to the device. Snow Leopard breaks compatibility with Palm's moribund Palm Desktop software once and for all.
