Short Updates

Posted by Scott at 11:59 PM

Good morning! Dropped the six off at middle school and went to Mass. In Catholic churches today we remember the seven sorrows of Mary. 8:41am

Just finished all the initial screening with Michelle. Now in the radiology waiting room while Michelle gets her MRI. Besides prayer, I think I'll edit some pictures from Abby's camera to pass the time. 11:24am

At the Nashua Applebees having lunch with Michelle. 12:56am

Back home and logging into work so that I don't get too far behind. Michelle makes me laugh. She was concerned about what an MRI would be like. In hindsight she says, "Yeah, it's loud. But I've seen my kids be louder. And the machine isn't saying, 'mom, mom' 50 times an hour." And she got to listen to XM satellite radio during the time, a station of her choosing. 1:56pm

Yay! Abby's package with two kitteh puzzles arrived today. Since she'll be home from school soon, I'll just leave it on the front step for her to discover. As a kid I was always excited on those exceedingly rare times when I got a package. 2:00pm

My emacs session had a string of random repeated letters in the code and Tux was knocked off my desk. I'm pretty sure Snickers was up here. Who knew he was a Microsoft fanboy, er fankitteh? 3:37pm

I've been watching the ACORN fiasco and thinking, the only way you could get '60 Minutes' to investigate something like this is if it was taking place in Wasilla, Alaska or Midland, Texas. 6:56pm

For the first time today I played with the Photoshop "pinch" distort filter. OMGoodness what funny looking faces you can make with it. 7:51pm

Geek talk: Didn't realize that when my MacBook was driving our TV over HDMI, it was defaulting to only 720p. Found the preferences to get it to span to the TV at native 1080i. (our modest TV's highest setting) I played a 1080p video of Carrie Underwood's "All American Girl" (related link) 8:32pm

Bookmarks I made today:

Is Catholic-Orthodox Unity in Sight?
Comment: I know that there is some skepticism ahead and it would certainly be bumpy during the process, but I would love to see this happen. I believe Pope JP II used to refer to this as "the Church breathing with both lungs again". (or something similar)
Excerpt: The Catholic Archbishop of Moscow has given a remarkably upbeat assessment of relations with the Orthodox Church, saying unity between Catholics and Orthodox could be achieved “within a few months.”

Possible T-Mobile-Sprint merger could rival AT&T in subscribers
Comment: Hopefully such a merger would result in great customer service (T-Mobile) and awesome voice and 3G coverage (Sprint) and not leave us with the lagging technology of T-Mobile and the meager service of Sprint.
Excerpt: Deutsche Telekom, the owners of T-Mobile in the U.S., are reportedly looking into acquiring competitor Sprint. Together, the two companies would have a customer base that rivals AT&T.

DSi at Nintendo
Comment: Now in pink. Will my Abigail be able to resist?!
Excerpt: Nintendo's DSi - now in white and pink.

10 Ways to Have a Baby
Comment: 10 Ways?! Really? Suddenly I feel so retro, so "0LD 5K00L". Imagining: "you had five kids the (ahem) organic way?"
Excerpt: From embryo adoption to sperm washing, making a family is easier—and more complicated—than ever.

45% Of Doctors Would Consider Quitting If Congress Passes Health Care Overhaul
Excerpt: Two of every three practicing physicians oppose the medical overhaul plan under consideration in Washington, and hundreds of thousands would think about shutting down their practices or retiring early if it were adopted, a new IBD/TIPP Poll has found
