Short Updates

Posted by Scott at 09:04 PM

Good morning! School snow day. Only 4-8 inches expected, starting mainly around noon. 5:48am

As mentioned earlier, the kids are home because of a snow day. This cancels Michelle's fitness class this morning. Instead she'll take Mighty Timbo to the doctor because he hasn't been so Mighty these past few days. I'll be VPN'd into the office, missing "opening day" for Qualcomm in its new Boxborough, MA location. 8:59am

While I'm debugging today, in the background I'll be (finally) upgrading my MacBook to Snow Leopard (release 6 months ago). I expect it to be offline for a long time because I'm a big fan of MacPorts and all of those programs will need to be updated as well. Unlike Linux, MacPorts installs programs from the source code so updates take ages but are higher quality. 9:04am

Happy Anniversary Suzanne Bilik Clausen and Brian Clausen ! 9:09am

MacBook updated to latest OS. Can't reach macports.org from my network to do that update. It's some funky DNS/routing issue because I can reach it from an account outside my house. I wonder if it's a problem at OpenDNS? 11:35am

Our girls would be out of school by now. It is snowing, but nothing serious has accumulated on the streets. Oh well. Some days it's hard to tell when you should call a snow day. I have this bad feeling that tomorrow might be a delayed start if things are only beginning now. 2:24pm

Back in from snow removal for the night. It was only about five inches or so. Also opened up our third and final ton of wood for the season to top off the primary stove. Timothy seems in better spirits tonight. Praying that the worst is behind him (and that it doesn't spread to the rest of us). Now I should enjoy one last treat before tomorrow's Ash Wednesday fast. 7:51pm

Enjoying some hot chocolate pudding while building Imagemagick. (related link) 8:22pm

Done with tinkering for the night (I hope). Going to sync up the weblog and call it a day. Good night all! 9:03pm

Scientists discover the secret of aging
Comment: Interesting discovery that aging is closely related to our bodies self defense mechanism against cells becoming cancerous.
Excerpt: “It is absolutely essential to tread carefully in trying to alter processes that cause cells to age, because the last thing we want is to help age-damaged cells from breaking out to become malignant,” said Mr von Zglinicki.

Hitler on Climate Change
Comment: This is the third time I've seen this Hitler scene re-subtitled. And like the others, it made me laugh.
