Short Updates

Posted by Scott at 09:41 PM

Good morning! Today is the feast of St. Joseph the Worker. It was established by Pius XII in 1955 in response to the Communist May Day to voice an authentic meaning of work relative to Communist philosophy. 6:55am

Back from a great Step & abs class. The house seems quieter without our girls here. It's "just" Michelle & I and the three boys. 10:54am

Took Michelle and the boys for lunch at Amigos Mexican Cantina in Milford. 1:42pm

This weekend my main project is to give the wood stoves their end-of-season thorough cleanout. Trying to get myself motivated to do the basement one today and perhaps the main floor one tomorrow after Mass. One's arms look like those of a chimney sweep by the time you're done. 4:19pm

One stove down. One to go. Tomorrow. Now time for a simple comfort food dinner: soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. 5:50pm

Picked up the girls from their visit to the NH lakes region. Downloading the new Doctor Who, "Flesh and Stone". (related link) 8:34pm

Enjoyed that new episode of Doctor Who. Going to call it a night. Good night all! 9:41pm

They’re praying for us, let’s pray for them
Comment: [Hat Tip: Domenico Bettinelli]
Excerpt: This is the 3rd video by these Spanish young adults. Each year, it’s been an encouragement to pray the Rosary during Mary’s month of May. This year, in the Year of the Priest, they invite us to pray for our priests.

"Anna Karenina" at Netflix
Comment: While working my way through Tolstoy's novel, I also decided to watch this old BBC "masterpiece theater" version done back in 1977. Got through this last (10th) episode this afternoon while getting a nap. It's available via Netflix's video on demand so I just watched it on the Wii. I still think it's a bit funny watching thoroughly British actors try to play Russian aristocracy.
Excerpt: A very married Anna Karenina begins an affair with a soldier but, separated from her son and without the support of her upper-class peers, her infidelity comes at a cost that might be too high for anyone to endure.

Frigidaire 50-Pint Dehumidifier
Comment: Our ~12+ year old basement dehumidifier has finally bit the bullet. In the winter our basement stays dry because of the wood stove, but we're done with wood for the season. Summer mugginess is right around the corner. Ordered this replacement.
Excerpt: The Frigidaire 50-pint Dehumidifier is an Energy Star Compliant 50-pint per day dehumidifier capable of continuous operation when the unit is located near a suitable drain. It features full-function electronic controls, an easily accessible collection container with level indicator, and a washable f...
