Short Updates

Posted by Scott at 09:25 PM

Good morning! It's the Solemnity of Pentecost, considered the birthday of the Church. Today we have the usual morning plans -- Mass followed by breakfast at our local family run donut shop, Donut Fresh Express. 6:19am

Michelle and I both had a rough night of sleep. We're congested from all of the yard work yesterday. When Mighty Timbo came in to wake us, he also had the sniffles. Heck, I even heard kittehs sneezing last night. Ah, spring in NH! 6:23am

Went through the dresser and closet for clothes to donate. I've been meaning to do this for a while. Trying to avoid becoming a "but, but, but I might wear this someday" pack rat. If it's been over a year, odds are ... no. If dust is accumulating on it, it's goin'. 12:49am

Updated the iMacs to OSX 10.6.3 and other minor updates. Ran a test program on the 50 sprinklers and darn it, 4 of the heads need replacing. It amazes me how they die after 6 months of sitting unused underground. Now doing an update on Claire's Ubuntu laptop. Michelle & I are thinkin' Amigos Mexican Cantina for dinner with the kidlets. 3:38pm

It's 78F. I'm sittin' in the screened in porch with my wife & boys enjoying fresh grilled cheeseburgers. 5:36pm

Dave Matthews' Transportation Advice for People Who Aren't Rock Stars: ‘Take a Bike'
Comment: Ah, so the fact that my round trip commute is ~70 miles can be offset if I just raise awareness? Cool! Hey people, turn off your unused lights. There. I've offset my weekly diesel usage. I'll have a new tip next week. Stay tuned.
Excerpt: “My carbon footprint, I think I can say confidently is much bigger than most people’s. But I think trying to raise awareness has, you know, maybe offsets that a bit."

Peanuts Summertime Specials
Comment: The boys are laughing up a storm watching this via Netflix streaming (on the Wii).

Top 10 smartphones of 2010 ... for now
Comment: Emphasis on the "for now". This is a fast changing marketplace.
Excerpt: The smartphone market is really taking off with many extremely compelling devices available on all four major US wireless carriers. Check out my list

George
Comment: The girls were surfin' through old photos and were semi-sad to see this old one of George. Good ol' George, as in “I will love him and pet him and squeeze him – and I will call him ‘George’.” http://youtu.be/2JlVqfC8-UI

New programming jargon you coined? - Stack Overflow
Comment: Only for the nerds out there. Several of these are quite clever. Refuctoring, Hindenbug, nopping, Heisenbug, Loch Ness Monster bug, Baklava code, Protoduction.
Excerpt: What programming terms have you coined that have taken off in your own circles (i.e. have heard others repeat it)? It might be within your own team, workplace or garnered greater popularity on the Internet.

Google Pacman
Comment: Now that Google's home page is back to normal, this is the link to that Pacman page they had up on the 30th anniversary (ie. Friday).
