Happy Easter

Posted by Scott at 09:00 PM

Happy Easter all! I didn't write much during the day. I wasn't near a computer very often.

We got up early to catch the 7am sunrise Easter Mass at St. Patricks. I was surprised that even that early Mass was filled to near capacity. Our pastor didn't celebrate the Mass. All Easter Triduum he's had some assistance from a priest friend he's known since seminary days. This priest gave a homily based on the story of The Ragman which I'll include below. It was a nice allegory for the Resurrection.

Afterwards we took the kids to DFE for breakfast, as we commonly do on Sunday after Mass. Friendly service, hot breakfast sandwiches, good coffee, and affordable prices when feeding a family of seven.

When we got back the kids hunted for easter eggs and their easter baskets. It was mostly indoors but the weather was really nice in the morning. Once everything was found and inventoried, we did a fair amount of straightening up around the house. I fixed the back screen door ... again. And we all watched an episode of Early Edition while I folded a big basket of whites.

In this episode Gary's sidekick Chuck is told somehow he's going to deliver a baby and Chuck does everything he can to avoid it because he is phobic about "bodily fluids" like blood, amniotic fluids, etc. It was cute. Michelle and I enjoyed this series back in '96 but the girls are getting into it too.

Around two o'clock our friends, the Nixes, arrived from Belmont to spend the rest of the holiday with us. Unfortunately the weather had taken a turn for the worse compared to the morning. Their girls will be staying here for a few days to enjoy time with our girls. Over winter break our girls spent a few days up in Belmont. Now with spring break they'll spend some time with us.

It was all very casual. We put out many spreads of "finger foods": veggies and dip, cheese and crackers, stuffed mushrooms, etc. and Michelle had a crockpot of chili ready anytime someone wanted a bowl. Surprising to me Michelle also had one of my favorites, eclaire cake, for dessert.

After the parents left I got the boys ready for bed. I setup my laptop to watch the season 6 premiere of Doctor Who a second time. The story had a bit of a convoluted plot and I wanted to catch it a second time to see if I missed anything.
