Short Updates

Posted by Scott at 09:21 PM

Good morning! So yes, it did snow overnight, but it's between a trace and half an inch. It's like God decided to put a little white frosting everywhere. I'm thankful because I didn't feel up to a major snow removal before 7am Mass. We've got to be there early anyway today because Claire & Abby are altar servers this morning. 5:46am

Back from Mass and breakfast. Kids pushed the shovels around for a bit. Time to get the tree ready. Later Michelle and Timothy have CCD. 9:12am

Watching "The 13th Day" while Michelle and Timothy are at CCD. We put the tree up and its lights. Decorations when they return from CCD. 10:51am

Finally trying out the Eye-Fi I bought for Abby's camera. First step, plug the included USB card reader with the Eye-Fi into your computer. Result: Initialize/Ignore/Eject. Not a good thing since the Eye-Fi software & documentation is pre-installed on the card. Going to try on another couple of machines... 1:55pm

A bit mad. It looks like the new Eye Fi card I bought is toast. Tried all the FAQs but the software can't initialize it properly. Will need to call their customer support tomorrow. 2:36pm

I'm not all the way through the process yet, but think I'm liking Amazon's return policy. They're shipping me a replacement Eye-Fi card and directed me to a web page to print up the needed UPS return paperwork. And it looks like there's a UPS drop box a quarter mile from my home. Fingers crossed. 3:14pm

The girls (young and old) are over at StuffMart™ buying some new winter boots. Meanwhile I'm home with the boys while they play SuperMario Galaxy. Since Michelle isn't here, we've got the sound re-routed to the entertainment center. There's actually some nice stereo sound in a Wii game if you have the audio to back it up. (7.1 audiophiles can mock me now...) 3:19pm

For the second time this year I received an invitation to take an online survey for my local Golds Gym. And again I recommended they do something about the humidity in the fitness studio. Still doubting anything gets done... 3:46pm

Watching "A Charlie Brown Christmas" with Michelle, Abby, & the boys. 6:10pm

Watched some "Ferris Bueller" with Claire before heading to bed. Good night all! 9:11pm

Bookmarks I made today:

How a Web Design Goes Straight to Hell
Comment: If you've messed around with web design, this so resonates. The author wonders whether engineers go through this type of bull. Let me assure him, they do. A "clean, efficient, functional" design gets new B.S. "marketing requirements" and suddenly your chip is bigger, more bloated, more power hungry, more expensive, more buggy...

Cap-And-Trade Loss A Stunner In Aussie Vote
Comment: The article also says, "As the public outcry intensified, Turnbull refused to back down, staking his entire reputation and future on his passionate support for cap-and-trade." I must admit a bit of Schadenfreude on this one.
Excerpt: For the first time since 1916, the leader of a major Australian political party was deposed on the grounds of just one policy decision: the decision to support cap-and-trade. His political career is over, his aspirations to become prime minister have come to naught.

Climate Change Statistics Humor
Comment: Best use of Microsoft Word's annoying "Clippy" assistant yet...
Excerpt: In the wake of climategate we bring you some levity.
