It's been a quiet few days. There hasn't been much to write about. Of course now that the parents are gone, now, Now, NOW it decides to be sunny and 75 for several days in a row! Thank you Mother Nature.
Abby's doctor appointment went reasonably well. At least she didn't need any shots. Unfortunately she spent most of the time saying that she didn't want to be there and wanted to go home. Besides the obvious reason (kids, doctors, you do the math...) she knew that Miss Kathy Godin had come over with her kids to watch Claire and Daniel. She was concerned about missing out on the fun! When she got home with her clean bill of health, Abby did get to play with the other kids.
I did a minor operating system upgrade to the POS laptop yesterday. I'm still amazed at how well Linux extends the life of old hardware. This is a Pentium 133MHz laptop with 32 MB of RAM. Nearly worthless by today's standards. I bet I could pick one up at a used computer store for a couple hundred dollars. Yet I've been able to do e-mail, browse, read Usenet news, and brush up on some of my more rusty programming skills (in perl and elisp in particular). All free and open source software. 10 years ago I would never have imagined that I would be able to use a unix operating system (and it's tools) at home. The cheapest solutions available then cost hundreds of dollars. Now, via cooperation on the Internet, it's here and free. Microsoft hates that they will never own it. Enough geek talk...
I'm behind at work. I always am. The moment I get anyway near approaching caught up, the pipeline fills up. Perhaps I should just appear busy. This way I won't get new assignments as fast. "He's too busy, get someone else." Looking on the bright side, being invaluable is a good move towards job security.
As is common, Michelle, the kids, and I went to the YMCA today. As usual, Joanne gave another great step class with some new creative sequences. I think since Joanne teaches so many boring and routine classes over at Riviere College, she uses her YMCA stint as a means to do some creative venting.
On to something gross... the boys haven't pooped in two days. I don't want to see it when they finally let go. No diaper or outfit will be able to hold. "Captain, we've lost containment" (picture Scottie from Star Trek yelling at Captain Kirk). "She's gonna blow any moment"
Claire is getting very excited about the upcoming visit of her cousins: TJ, Cassidy, Andrew and William. Until I see them pull up in the driveway, I'm gonna be nervous for them due to the long drive. Please pray for the safety of Alyssa, Tom, and their family as they drive from Chicago to Nashua this weekend.
Once again, it's late and I'd better get some rest. It's funny how relative "late" is. It's late for a father of four. It's early from a college student's perspective. ;-)
