This past weekend was fun. Michelle and I did take the family to Russell's party. Russell has a nice collection of toys for kids to play with. As you would imagine, the girls were sad to leave.
That night the time zone shift occurred. We tried to keep the kids up a bit longer but it didn't seem to do much good. I think you can set the national standard clock off of the boys internal biological clock. "Standard Time! We don't need no stinkin' Standard Time!"
So the following morning the boys woke up accordingly. The hard part for us has been that when they get cranky and do want their sleep, they haven't been going down smoothly. You put them down and they still cry for about 20 minutes. Arghh! Just go to sleep already!
On Sunday Michelle and I attended Mass in split shifts: she and Claire at 8AM and me at 10:30AM. Later that afternoon I took Claire and Abby to the parish Halloween party. Claire was happy to see a few of her classmates there at the party. I'm glad Claire is making some friends there. It is helping her with the transition away from home school.
I wrote earlier about Microsoft's moves to own a large portion of the Internet. There is an interview with Tim Berners-Lee (developer of the first web browser) about what he sees Microsoft doing:
I have fought since the beginning of the Web for its openness: that anyone can read Web pages with any software running on any hardware. This is what makes the Web itself. This is the environment into which so many people have invested so much energy and creativity. When I see any Web site claim to be only readable using particular hardware or software, I cringe - they are pining for the bad old days when each piece of information need a different program to access it.
