Today is All Saints Day. Strange how it always seems to come right after Halloween... Yes, I know it's the other way around. It also happens to be the 55th anniversary of Pope John Paul II's ordination to the priesthood. With his deteriorating health these past few years I'm still impressed by his ongoing accomplishments.
Last night it was cold and there was a light rain. Not exactly ideal Trick-or-treating weather. (Of course today it's gorgeous outside...) The girls were in costume for the official opening at 6PM but I had them help me distribute candy for the first half hour. Once 6:30PM rolled around, Michelle was able to put the boys to bed and I took the girls out around the local neighborhood. This was the first year that Abby seemed to really get into it. "Are we going to the next house now, Papa?"
As I was eating breakfast this morning and reading the newspaper (the Wanderer) I came across a reprint of this rather disturbing coverage of NBC's Law and Order program. One of the writers really appears to have an anti-Catholic chip on his shoulder, judging by recent episodes.
It's now late autumn in New Hampshire and some trees are bare. The vibrant colors are much more subdued--- earth tones, you could say. Still pretty but in a different way. I can tell that soon though things will be completely bare again and they'll stay that way until April. Sniff... pout. It was nice while it lasted.
