Twins sleep through the night

Posted by Scott at 06:36 AM

The boys both slept through the night last night. I believe that's a first for them. As with the other kids, it's never been a really major benchmark for Michelle: "Do they sleep through the night?" is the common question we get. What Michelle is usually looking for is getting them to one feeding per night. We've had that for quite some time now. Despite what you might think, Michelle didn't sleep too well last night. She'd wake up thinking "any moment now they're going to wake up". In actually they did stir a bit last night a little after 10PM. I was still up and online with this junk laptop. Daniel had flipped onto his back and had gotten uncovered. I went in, flipped him back over, and covered him with a blanket. While I was in, I made sure Michael was covered too. Within a few minutes all was quiet in their bedroom. From there I guess they slept through the night.

We had a nasty snow storm Thursday evening into Friday. I wasn't the quantity of the snow that came, it was the quality of the snow: a bit of snow followed by rain, sleet, and freezing rain. The number of accidents on the highway was quite high. Claire had her first school snow day! At first they had only declared a 90 minuted delay, but later that was revised to being a day off. She was excited, but I'm not sure that Michelle was. On the plus side we did light a fire and eat s'mores last night.

I ordered a laser printer for home: a Brother HL-1650. High resolution, 16 pages per minute, double sided printing, Adobe Postscript and HP PCL6 compatibility. Because RAM is so cheap, I ordered a stick of memory for it as well: 128MB for $40. It's ironic that the printer will have more memory than most of the computers I've owned in the past.

My folks recently cancelled their broadband ADSL internet service. Of course a week later I determined what might have been the "killer app" that might have led them to keep their broadband internet service. I found that it would have been cheap for me to add a high performance, Firewire based webcam to our computer. The firewire models easily do 640x480 full color resolution at 30 frames per second. That's better clarity and a higher frame rate than TV! I could have piped streaming video of us to their computer from our house. I'm kicking myself for not thinking of that earlier!

This weekend I'll take Abby to swim class again. I have to replace the light switch on our upstairs bathroom. It failed this past week. I have to do a minor fix to the towel rack in the basement bathroom. Abby was hanging off of it and pulled it from the wall. I'm going to take Claire and Abby to see a play called Honk at the American Stage Festival on Sunday. Yes, I know that's SuperBowl day, but the game doesn't start till evening. I think we'll be watching it at the Martinez's house.

Work was different this week. I spent two and a half days in training, which was a nice break. However, it was later time to pay the reaper. I got behind and had to struggle to catch up. I recently purchased SnagIt for our support group and it's helped me a lot in trying to explain problems to people. SnagIt is a screen capture program that let's you annotate the screen shot. Now I regularly send customers marked up JPEGs showing glitches with circles and arrows emphasizing the important parts of the screen shot. It's really helped convey what I'm trying to explain to customers.

I've got to go now because all the kids are awake and it's time to take them downstairs. I'm expecting prints from dotPhoto today from that last album. I'll let you know how the weekend went.
