Signatures complete

So the signatures on the house are complete. It's now under contract and pending.

People often find me a bit cynical with regard to technology. After all, I work in the digital design industry. I don't have a pager, a cell phone, a phone answering machine, call waiting, a DVD player, or an MP3 player. Yet we do have a fairly new iMac with the wicked cool MacOS X, a laser printer, broadband connection, a personal digital video recorder, and a digital camera. I had always been a little sceptical of getting "the latest thing" unless I thought it provided true value or would be a sustaining hobby. My skeptical feelings about computer-izing or digital-izing everything were affirmed some years back when I read Silicon Snake Oil by Clifford Stoll. A recent article is providing more credance to the fact that the computer-ization and networking of our offices may not be providing all the benefits that they are supposed to. One of my favorite lines was:

"The networked computer is a fantastic tool for many things, but getting work done isn't one of them."
Again blogger Mark Shea is commenting on the recent Church scandals. In this recent post he's contemplating why the Pope hasn't dismissed or re-assigned the responsible bishops to some menial position. Nobody can really know what the Pope is thinking, but it's an interesting theory.

After picking up Claire from school Michelle and the kids stopped by for a quick office visit. It was a nice break from life in the cubicle. Gosh it's beautiful outside today!
