Mower's first run

Posted by Scott at 01:27 PM

I gave the tractor mower its maiden voyage across our yard yesterday. I'm certainly glad I waited a couple of days. The weather was much better than on Independence Day! Unfortunately the grass was rather tall in the back yard. I had to take things slowly. I didn't time it but I'd estimate it took about two hours to do the yard and used over a gallon of gas. Michelle did the edges and the hill with our small walk behind mower. She called it “our gas powered trimmer”. After the work she did, Michelle definitely wants to consider covering the hill with some sort of ground cover. Cutting the grass was definitely a dirty job. I was coated in dirt from those spots where the lawn is thin and the blades kicked up the dust. After I showered up, we drove to Blakes restaurant for some soup and an ice cream dessert.

The Energy North propane delivery guy came to top off our tank for the first time this afternoon. He gave me an overview of the service and looked over the four major appliances we have that use propane: the furnace, the water heater, the stove, and the dryer. This house couldn't run any less on electricity. Considering New Hampshire's electric rates, the more you can move to natural gas, oil, and propane, the better.

At church this morning a priest from the missions (the Divine Word Missions??? I forget...) concelebrated the Mass. He gave the homily, of course. It was strange. He didn't dwell on the need of the people or the progress of the missions. He spent the most time telling us (for lack of a better description) horror stories about his first few months in New Guinea. It didn't seem like a good homily to get people to open up and give generously.

In case you hadn't noticed, I've put a Google search button in the upper right hand corner of this web page. Google is considered among the best of the search engines. I used them so often I figured I might as well include a small form for searching Google on my homepage. If anyone has a particular suggestion for something to place on the right side of the homepage, let me know.

My friend Stu sent me this funny photo showing the difference between men and women in regards to a relaxing time in the bath tub. Thanks Stu.

Does anyone have experience with DirecTV? I sent in the deposit for MV's ADSL service. If it does pan out and turn out to be a smoother service than Adelphia's PowerLink service, I may drop Adelphia altogether (TV and internet) and just pick up a DirecTV receiver. I already have their nicer dual head dish mounted along my back roofline. It was left behind by the previous owner who was a real media buff.
