We arrived back home in New Hampshire early this afternoon. I'm always happy that the eastward flights tend to be shorter than the westward flights. This flight was only about 1 hour and 45 minutes long. Still, it was work keeping the boys (and girls) entertained so that they wouldn't fuss, complain, whine, and cry. Michael filled his pants when we boarded and Daniel did so during decent. Thanks, boys!
I haven't been able to write for over a week. My folks are temporarily without a computer. The computer my dad was using was actually my sister Suzanne's system. Suzanne started her senior year of college today, along with the computer. My brother will be setting dad up with a system again when he gets back from vacation.
Chris and Katie's wedding went off smoothly this past week: A nice rehearsal and rehearsal dinner, a beautiful sacramental marriage at St. Cyprian's Church and a large reception that lasted till midnight. I was glad we didn't fly back the day after the wedding. Having a day to recover was good.
Claire and Abby had a great time at the reception. They were miniature “dancing queens” along with their cousin Cassidy. They looked adorable dancing in their fancy wedding ceremony dresses.
Shortly after my last post, Tom, Chris, and I went to see Austin Powers Goldmember. Some find the humor to be to monotonous and predictable, but I liked it. I especially liked the opening sequence with the various cameo appearances.
Also this past week Michelle, Alyssa and I took the eight kids to KiddieLand. Unfortunately for the kids we were only there for a handful of hours because a thunderstorm came that caused heavy downpours. We consoled the kids with some BurgerKing and later that night with barbeque from Russell's barbeque in Franklin Park. As the week progressed and the wedding got closer, we ran out of time to take the kids to Brookfield Zoo. It was pretty uncomfortable many days that second week so I'm not really sure how much the kids would have enjoyed it anyway.
I have two funny kid stories from this past week. The first is my son, Michael, showing his Polish genes. When we play peek-a-boo with him, he covers his ears. It's as if he's saying “Peek-a-boo, I can't hear you...” The second funny story was that Abby got on the scale the other day and asked how much she weighed. “About 41 pounds,” I replied. She then stepped down, turned around, and climbed onto the scale backwards (heals first) and then said, “How much does my back weigh, papa?”
We had a ton of postal mail waiting when we returned this afternoon. I was happy to see the mortgage companies got our deposits from the sale of our previous home. I received over 30 emails on my personal MV account. I can't imagine how many work related emails await me tomorrow!
This afternoon while the boys napped Michelle went to the grocery to restock our nearly empty refridgerator. (Did I mention my folks' fridge went out about a week before the wedding? Murphy struck again with his wonderful sense of timing!) My weedpatch lawn is nice and high. Wednesday looks like it will be the perfect day to cut it back down to size because a nice cool northeastern front is working its way down with cooler, drier air from Canada. It was good to know that the sprinkler system continued to work in our absence. Tonight we took the girls to Blake's Ice Cream to commemorate the end of the vacation.
Tomorrow life gets back to normal as I head back to work. Late next week Claire starts school at Milford Elementary. Vacationing by visiting the extended family is always a nice treat but after a while you yearn to get back to your regular routine. It starts to feel awkward sleeping in a strange room, always borrowing cars, worrying about the twins ruining someone else's treasures, etc.
Quote of the day:
“If God didn't want us to eat animals then why are they made out of meat?”
