Half day of vacation

Posted by Scott at 04:44 PM

Because of all the rain we had this past weekend, I took a half day of vacation this morning. We needed to get to a local mail center to have our loan reamortization paperwork notarized and express mailed out to Washington Mutual. I also really needed to get the lawn cut. Waiting until next weekend was not really a good option. Today looked like it would be the last decent sunny day this week for tackling the lawn.

Yesterday we didn't get to go to our swing dance class. Our sitter had just returned from vacation and was really backlogged with work. Next week would be the last class for this session. Since Michelle and I have now missed the last two in a row, we're wondering whether we should even bother going to this last class.

Not that I'm particularly enamored with Apple's Switch ad campaign, but I had to laugh at all the hoopla going around the internet in regard to Microsoft's competing ad campaign. It turns out that the image used in the ad was a model in a stock photo image available for purchase elsewhere on the Internet. Microsoft quickly pulled the ad campaign, but you can see a mirrored copy of the ad taken before it was pulled. There was lots of interesting commentary, including this one:

"You’d think Microsoft could at least find one real person to say they made the switch from Mac to Windows and were happy about it." ... There are lots of embarrassing aspects to the story. The stock photo. The blatant falsehoods (such as the insinuations that neither Office nor Internet Explorer are available for the Mac). The marketing-speak that permeates the entire article. That it reeks of a juvenile response to Apple’s Switch ads. But the most damaging issue is the idea that the entire article was simply made up, that it’s a fabricated testimonial which Microsoft tried to pass off as the true story of an actual person.
