Anniversaries

Posted by Scott at 12:14 PM

Happy (belated) All Saints Day and All Souls Day. I like All Saints Day. It's kind of like the Catholic version of the "tomb of the unknown soldier" -- recognizing the lesser known saints and reminding us that we are all called to be saints.

Those two days also mark anniversaries relating to Ohio and New Hampshire. 8 years ago on November 1st we left Dayton, Ohio (Wright-Patterson) after having been stationed there for over 5 years. On November 2nd we crossed the "Welcome to New Hampshire" sign. 8 years! Where has the time gone?

I'm picking up an iBook laptop today along with an Airport to do wireless networking. Sunday afternoon when the boys were napping, Abby was on the computer for several hours. It kept me from doing any computer work. This has been a common occurrence. Michelle and I have been thinking about getting a second computer for several weeks now. After Abby's extended computer time yesterday, Michelle agreed that we should just go ahead and buy it.

Another reason it's been a few days since my last post is that I was tinkering with hosting this web log natively from my Mac -- i.e. the Mac is the web server. I was looking at a system that would allow multiple authors (i.e. other extended family members) to post at the top level, rather than just adding comments. You can see an early draft of the home hosted website. The downside of this approach is that if our computer is down or the Adelphia link broken, then the website would be temporarily unavailable. It shows some of the built in coolness that lies under the hood of the new MacOS that it was this trivial to setup a locally hosted website.
