Another long day...

Posted by Scott at 10:11 PM

If yesterday seemed a long day, today wasn't much shorter. Michelle and I both woke up for some unknown reason around 2AM this morning. We were able to doze back off to sleep around 3:30AM but then Daniel started stirring around 4AM. When we got up we saw the accumulations that had occurred after midnight, best described by the high tech term "icky". At 8:30AM it was above freezing outside but still snowing. You can imagine what kind of snow it was.

Due to the risky driving conditions, most schools, including Claire's, had a two hour delay. So now Michelle had an extra child around in the morning that she would later need to take to school. Of course because of their lack of sleep, the boys feel asleep in the van on the way to dropping Claire off, even though it was only 10:30AM. Michelle tried to put the boys in their beds as soon as she got home but it wasn't much use. The boys were now out of sync for the rest of the day.

Meanwhile at work, my friend Russell came by to join Will and I for lunch. He offered to stop by the house and play with the kids. Thankfully for Michelle he stayed all afternoon, keeping the kids busy -- and vice versa. The boys were so tired out that by the time Will and I got to the house after work, the boys were already in bed. Russell, Will, the girls, Michelle and I had some carry out pizza for dinner. After the girls went to bed the grownups watched Austin Powers in Goldmember.

Now it's 10PM and I really should catch up on the sleep. I'm amazed to see my Apple iBook laptop battery indicator. It says 5 hours 25 minutes left. That's an unbelievable amount of battery life for a laptop. This laptop may not have the biggest screen, fastest processor, etc of laptops I've used, but it's been awesome in ways that matter. Smooth non-crashing operation, instant on/off, long battery life, seamless networking, the right blend of applications, and a silky user interface. Peel the onion a bit and there are all the features underneath that die-hard computer guys love : compilers, scripting languages, unix, etc. I'm not going to say it's a perfect laptop, but it's been the best one I've had the pleasure to use thus far.
