Love at first sight

Posted by Scott at 09:11 PM

This morning I piled all the kids in the van. After dropping Claire off at school, the rest of us headed into Nashua. I dropped the younger three off at Miss Kathy's house and went to the hospital to see Michelle and our new son. Michelle is right. He is beautiful, although like most babies has that miniature old man look to him. I'm happy to report that they are both doing well. Michelle seems to think this caesarian went better than the last. I took pictures at the hospital but right now I'd rather focus on sleep. Call me selfish.

I also got to see what she meant when she said that the baby has a fused ear. Grab your right outer ear along the outside edge, fold it forward until it touches the front of your ear near your canal. Now imagine if the skin connected so that it was fused in place. The pediatrician wasn't too worried about it and said she had seen it before. It's due to the positioning of the baby during development in the womb. They will be doing more internal diagnostics, like MRI's, to make sure that the inner ear is all fine. If so, it should just be a minor cosmetic fix.

It's been a bit tiring taking care of the kids these past few days. Certainly I missed a chunk of sleep the night that I took Michelle into the hospital. I also seem to have a lower grade version of the symptoms I had with the stomach bug last week-- a bit weak, don't feel like eating, stomach noises and cramping, etc. I'm hoping it's gone tomorrow so I can try to enjoy my time with the kids more. Tomorrow is my last full day with them. Michelle and the baby are scheduled to come home Thursday morning and my mom flies in around lunchtime that day.

Talk about near misses... Wow our son was born the next day. 4 Feb. Congats guy. You and Michelle certainly have been the busy growing family. Is this #5 now, if I have counted correctly. I simpathize with you now, sir, about missed sleep. I too am trying to catch up. Fortunately, little Carl is doing a good job himself, so mommy and I get to rest a bit. Lori also had a C-section, and it is a bit slow getting back on her feet. Her energy is good, but she tends to over do it. Thus I am conserned about her healing properly. She has a slight infection in the insision and is on some medication for it now. Anyway congrats again to you both. Little Carl and little Timothy will have to meet soon. It's been so darn long since we've seen each other, that I wonder if we'll even recogize one another. Going for some more sleep now. May God let you have some rest!

Warm regards,
Christian & Lori Schuler
