Big Storm

Posted by Scott at 10:21 PM

As you may have heard in the news, the snow storm that hit yesterday was above average. I think that in Boston it broke a record with something like 27 inches of snow in 24 hours. The results were about the same hear in Milford. I didn't measure it but it was above my knees as I was running through it with the snow blower this morning. I really should have made a preliminary pass over the driveway last night to clear out the first foot of snow. I had no idea it was that deep. The beauty of New England is that by the time lunchtime came and I was driving into work, the roads were clear. Amazing! Tall banks of snow along the curbs, but clear roads. More info available in the Nashua Telegraph writeup.

This morning I decided on a whim to do a Google search for my high school friend, Dan Stalder. The first hit went right to him. I dropped a quick email to confirm that he is indeed the same one. He wrote back and gave me some updates on his life. I wrote him back tonight to catch him up on the past dozen years. If you're reading this, hi Dan!

I also got a phone call from another long distance friend, Ed. Ed and I worked together for three years in the Air Force and he is Daniel's godfather. Ed is trying to plan a visit sometime this spring. He's visited several times since we moved to New Hampshire and we always enjoy his visits.

Everyone seems healthy. I hope it lasts. Tomorrow Timothy goes in for a routine doctor checkup.

Paula knit another baby blanket and sent it to us. This one, of course, is for Timothy. She's made one for each of our children as they were born. I hope that when my dad is here we can try to get a picture of everyone sitting around the fireplace, each with their respective baby blankets (and Michelle and I with our monster "you're moving to New England?!" quilt). Thanks again, Paula! It's a beautiful blanket.

Got to go for now. I just know that five minutes after I shut this laptop down, Timothy is going to fuss. Murphy's law requires it.

Hey all-
How come we have no snow? I'm not complaining!
Glad everyone is feeling better, myself included.
I'd like to hear how Dan Stalder is doing as well. Let me know how to reach him, if possible.
William wants breakfast- gotta go!

HOPE YOU GET ALL OF THAT SNOW CLEANED UP BEFORE I GET THERE. ALSO, I HOPE MOM AND MICHELLE ARE NOT STRAINING THEMSELVES TOO MUCH SHOVELING AND MOVING THAT HEAVY SNOW AROUND! TELL THEM TO TAKE THERE TIME, THE SNOW ISN'T GOING ANYWHERE SOON. SHOVELING SNOW IS JUST AS GOOD AN EXERCISE AS GOING TO THE "Y" AND LOOK AT ALL THE GAS YOU WILL SAVE! AS LONG AS THERE IS A CLEAR PATH TO THE ICE CREAM PARLOR SO CLAIRE AND I CAN GET OUR RATION OF HEALTHY ICE CREAM EVERYTHING WILL BE OK. HAVE TO GO NOW - ENJOY THE SNOW!

I'm assuming that was high sarcasm. No, I cleared out all the snow myself while Michelle and mom looked on from inside. It took about 4 hours, even with the dual stage snow thrower. That's why I was wishing I went out the night before. Two 12 inch clearings would have been easier than trying to clear out two feet of snow all in one session.

And yes, there is a clear path to Blakes Ice Cream Restaurant... Claire is looking forward to it.
