I was reading the newspaper this morning and came across this story:
‘Gay’ Group Slashes Homosexual Partner Benefits for Own Employees
A leading homosexual activist group has cut in half domestic partner benefits for its employees’ lovers. The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, which is working to force corporations to adopt such benefits for its homosexual employees, reportedly said that the costs were "prohibitively expensive." One of the key arguments used by NGLTF and other homosexual pressure groups is that extension of marital benefits to homosexuals will not cost companies much money.
"In public, homosexual activists arrogantly and deceitfully dismiss concerns by other employers about the costs of so-called 'domestic partner' benefits. But in private, when faced with the reality that practicing what they preach was threatening their own salaries and lobbying budget, these very same homosexual activists cut same-sex benefits for their own employees."
Certainly an ironic situation, which is somewhat amusing and a bit sad. I wonder how the costs of domestic-parter benefits compare to spouse benefits, if NGLTF would not be able to afford insurance payments for traditional spouses either?
I could believe that insurance premiums for homosexuals could be higher, from risks such as HIV, though I'm a little doubtful on some of the statistics (such as the domestic violence one) shown in the article. The CWA obviously has their agenda and slant and of course an artcle from the NGLTF would have different numbers. I imagine the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Damn media bias! 8/
Posted by: will at April 8, 2003 04:16 PMIt's funny. When I wrote this, my first thought is that the reader would question the source. I've found that every place I go to has a bias or at the very least a "world view". Thus, I always try to take that into account whether looking at NOW's website or CWA's website.
While the statistics quoted later in the article are potential for standard "lying with statistics", I did find there to be a certain irony in just the cutting of medical benefits by a group that tells others to extend them. Hence, the "things that make you go hmmmm...". "Do as we say, not as we do" irony applies to both the left and right side of the spectrum, no? ;=)
