School stuff

Posted by Scott at 03:44 PM

My new semester has begun and I am very excited about my classes. They are much more "counseling" oriented that last semester. It seems as though my work load will be lighter this time, but hey, thats what I felt last September. I'll keep my mouth shut.

I have three classes and three thesis credit hours. I can't remember the names of all my classes but I'll link to the syllabi here and here. The third professor does not have one available online. I also have completed my introduction for my thesis proposal and have a tentative title: The effects of viewing objectified images of women on the implicit sexual attitudes of males.

This weekend I am going to Seth's for the three day weekend. I would normally go back to Chicago, but over Christmas break I was only able to visit in Oregon for two days. So, I decided it would be good to go visit the Grennan's this time. Seth is very busy now studying for his comprehensive examinations. He chose to do that instead of writing a thesis. He's crazy if you ask me, there is no way I could put myself through all of that massive studying.

Over the next month and a half I have to decide where I want my internship placement to be for next year. I am seriously looking into Chestnut's adult or adolescent inpatient substance abuse units. Yes, it would be tough to work with such an at-risk population. However, I would really enjoy the chance since I would get great experience with assesment and supervision, as well as be able to lead group counseling sessions.

Nothing else is new or exciting here. I did find out my last day of finals is May 3rd so I am hoping Mom and Dad will take me on a vacation before summer classes begin ;)

Hi Suzy,

Glad to see you back in school and online again. Best of luck with the new classes. I think that the area you're planning for your thesis is very important for our modern culture. In some sense woman were liberated but then enslaved -- returning to being objects but in a different sense of the word.

While we would always be glad to have you visit, I'm not sure what you want to do in May. The leaves aren't changing, it's too cold yet to go to a lake or the ocean. I'm not saying that springtime isn't pretty. May is usually when our lawn looks it's best (before the June/July sun beats the life out of it). If you have some ideas, let me know. When does your summer term end? How much time off do you have between summer term and fall term?

Have fun with Seth's family in Oregon, IL this weekend. I wish I had a three day weekend. I'm giving training on USB on Monday starting at lunch time. Otherwise I might have taken the day off since Claire already has it off anyway.

In theory tonight is the last of the bitter cold arctic air. Tomorrow should be in the 20's again -- downright balmy from a relative point of view! ;->
