More retro gaming

Posted by Scott at 06:11 AM

MarioDonkey Kong - I forgot to mention that last week I did another little splurge in retro gaming by purchasing Donkey Kong for the GameBoy. DKIt's part of Nintendo's recent ClassicNES series that they've launched to motivate us thirty-somethings to open our wallets. Ahh, DonkeyKong... The game that introduced us to Mario and DK. Before there were any of the SuperMario Bros series, before GameCube and it's successful line of Mario[fill in the blank] game series, there was DonkeyKong! No modern 3-D, Gouraud shaded, textured renderings with polyphonic sound! Just simple sprite graphics with cheesy blips and bleeps. Actually I picked it up because Michelle mentioned that it was one of her favorites as a kid. That and PacMan, which I already picked up for her last fall. Abby really likes the game, even though it is very "old school" in graphics and sounds.

Hi Ben, (Ben Bilik, right?)

Your email address might have been typed wrong because my reply back bounced. I'll just answer here. Let me recommend three sites (in order of my preference) :

http://blogger.com/
http://www.livejournal.com/
http://www.diary-x.com/

Investigating them might be a bit overwhelming. If you have any questions about what they do before you decide, drop me a line and I can clear up the confusion.

If you ever want to send me a private comment about something I've written without it showing up on the Bilikfamily.com webpage (as your comment did), just click on the link of the author name (when it says "Posted by Scott at 11:40PM"). That'll open up your email program with a new message to me (or Claire or Suzy).

Hi Scott sorry it took me so long to reply, something wasnt working right. Thanks for the websites, but i didnt realy want one that makes a journal i was think of something more along the lines of a regular website that holds information. Do you know any of those? Im not sure if im explaining it right tho so just ask if you are confused.

Well, if nothing else, I'm sure your SBC DSL account included several megabytes of space you could use. I seem to recall that Yahoo and GeoCities used to work semi-decent and free, but it's been a while since I've looked in the "free" domain. For a first level, double check that you didn't already get 10 or 20 megabytes with your SBC account. Most ISP's include some space for setting up a little web site.

Hey Ben,

According to this page:

http://www01.sbc.com/sbcyahoo_dslfeatures/0,,,00.html

It looks like SBC gives DSL users a lot of online stuff to use with their DSL accounts. In particular I see "Personalized Homepage", "SBC Yahoo! Photos" and "SBC Yahoo! Briefcase" (for storage of random files). It looks like you just need to do some digging on how to use them.
