Weekend wrapup - Without going into too much detail, here are some of the highlights of the three day weekend.
- We ordered new bunk beds for the boys from the Oak Furniture Store on Amherst Street. It's the same store that we got our kitchen table and our wall unit shelves from. It's also recently been the center of a minor town struggle.
- We took the boys down to the banks of the Souhegan River. The water is low enough now that Michelle kicked off her sandals and stepped out onto a few rocks about 10 feet from the banks, much to the anxiety of the boys.
- This morning I went to Michelle's Monday morning step class. It's not that often that I get to see her lead a class anymore. "Work that body! Work that body! Make sure you don't hurt nobody!" (lyric from the warmup music)
- Michelle and I had a sitter watch the boys tonight while we went out for dinner at Elisha's and some coffee drinks afterwards at J. Beaners.
- Michelle finished painting the boys' room. Michelle finds painting to be very therapeutic. The boys room is two complementary shades of blue.
- Yesterday we cooled off in the little kiddy pool in our back yard. Man! Well water can make for a seriously cold pool. It was "wicked cold" even after it had several hours to warm up.
- I lectored at Mass on Sunday morning. I had the first reading (from Isaiah). It has the following blush-worthy verse used to draw a parallel between the comfort of Jerusalem and the comfort a mother gives to her very young child: "Oh, that you may suck fully of the milk of her comfort, that you may nurse with delight at her abundant breasts!" Say that in front of a whole congregation without any unusual facial expressions or voice cracking!
- We bought the "Silly Songs with Larry" CD, a must have for any frequent viewer of the VeggieTales series of videos. It includes such classic silliness as "The Hairbrush Song", "The Song of the Cebú", and "His Cheeseburger".
Goodbyes - This past week we learned of two sad goodbyes. Toward the end of the week Michelle called me to let me know that our friends, John and Mary Martinez, have decided to move back to Arizona. They have two little boys: Drew (a little younger than Abby) and Matt (a little older than Timothy). John, Mary, and Drew moved up here from Arizona in the summer of 2001. After being here three years, they've decided to go back.
At Sunday's Mass we were told the other big news: Fr. Ray is being reassigned to another parish up in Franklin, NH before the end of the month. He's served as pastor of Infant Jesus Parish for 15 years. On our drive to Mass that morning we had been discussing that we really should think seriously about re-registering now at the local Milford parish because the drives into Nashua were starting to feel too long. When we heard the news about Fr. Ray, we thought that his departure might be the best time to make that break.
