Turnabout - I caught this snippet in an article in today's Wall Street Journal and had to snicker a bit.
To Rein In CEOs' Pay, Why Not Consider Outsourcing the Post?
For several years now, chief executives of U.S. companies have been telling lots of employees that they have gotten too expensive. Since it is possible to find qualified but cheaper workers to write software and perform other labor in India, China, Turkey and dozens of other countries, it makes competitive sense, they say, to outsource jobs.
Perhaps it is time for American CEOs to include themselves in this strategy. Certainly the directors who determine their compensation should take a close, hard look at the colossal sums they are offering and do some global-labor cost analysis.
I've often joked that outsourcing will be reined in when we can get all of our legal services from overseas. Once the lawyers have to compete with $10/hour counterparts, the laws will moderate. But, hmmm, perhaps CEOs would have almost the same effect. I'm sure schadenfruede must be related to some Christian vice, but I'm not sure which one. Perhaps it's related to jealousy.
Vacation - Claire just plopped up on our bed and joyfully announced, "tomorrow we're goin'!". Tomorrow the girls fly to Chicago to get a jump start on summer vacation. The rest of us stay behind a while longer. To say they're excited is an understatement. Claire was even more excited to notice that it's now 60 days until her birthday!
Stove - The day after tomorrow, just after the girls leave, a second pellet stove gets installed in the basement. Finally that hole in the wall will be used and won't be an eyesore. Considering the recent hot, sticky weather, it's hard to think about wood stoves at this time.
