Today - Happy Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Also, a Happy Birthday to Bev Tarpey, Daniel's godmother. Lastly, today marks the 40th anniversary of the close of the Second Vatican Council. Wow! Has it really been 40 years now?! Granted I was born after Vatican II, but when I was a boy I'd always hear stories about how things were before Vatican II.
I went to the 7:30am Mass to honor this feast day. There is a plenary indulgence associated with the feast this year. I had hoped to bring Claire with me, but at the last minute she decided against it.
Today at lunch we are having a get together to watch that 1999 satire of office life: Office Space. It should be a fun meeting where we can laugh at the insanity of corporate life.
Romney - I was reading an article in the Nashua Telegraph (registration required for viewing articles) that folks are getting critical of Governor Romney in Massachusetts because he is "weakening" a state birth control law by allowing Catholic and private hospitals to opt out of dispensing emergency contraception. Amazing how when it's the words "under God" in the pledge of allegiance, some get all bent out of shape claiming "you can't make me say that." It's often these same folks who demand that other institutions violate their own doctrine in the promotion of contraceptives. It's "women's health" dontcha know...
I'm so out of touch with things of the Church lately. Thanks for reminding me it was the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Rob and I were married in a church thus named.
"Office Space"...one of George's favorite movies. I'm afraid I didn't find it all that entertaining.
What I'm amazed at is that you get to actually watch a movie at work!!!
AND live in New Hampshire?
C'mon! How many blessings can ONE person GET? ;-)
Office Space is hilarious! Let me know what you think...
Posted by: Suzy at December 8, 2005 05:51 PMOffice Space is awesome! I cant believe you got to watch it work.
Posted by: Chris at December 8, 2005 08:40 PMHi Chris and Suzy,
Yes, I have seen it before. We've had the occasional office movie watching at lunch but hadn't had one in a couple of years. Back then it was Life oF Brian. Our current site manager is pretty cool and is doing his best to see that we all "land on our feet" as far as the future job situation goes. He had no problem with us getting together at lunch for a few laughs. He's doing what he can to keep morale up.
Anyway, the movie viewing was postponed. There was supposed to be a goodbye lunch for a co-worker today (Friday). Since that storm that hit you yesterday is scheduled to pound us today with a foot of snow, our site manager knew a bunch of us (including me) would be working from home today. He moved up the goodbye lunch to yesterday and we rescheduled the movie to early next week. On the plus side we had a nice boondoggle to La Careta. Chris would have enjoyed the discussion of good and awful beer brands. So even though the movie was postponed, it was still a decent morale boost.
Michelle and I just got finished watching the 5am morning news. Milford schools *are* closed today because of the upcoming snow. We also heard about the Southwest Airlines airplane accident at Chicago Midway airport. Wow! So how much snow did River Grove get?
Posted by: Scott at December 9, 2005 05:44 AMHola!
Will started crying when he found out he didn't have a snow day! According to the news, O'Hare got 6 1/2 inches of snow, and Midway got 10. Tell Michelle I feel bad for her- I was thrilled that my kids did not have a snow day, so I know she's probably feeling the opposite.
Have a nice day!
