Thanksgiving - Because of the dingy weather this afternoon I decided to go through the pictures building up in my camera and go through some of the photos dad took with his brand new camera. The results are a photo album with 19 pictures, roughly half from dad, half from me.
While playing around in Photoshop Elements, I could see the pros and cons of the two cameras. My camera is a few years old, when 5 megapixels was leading edge, not consumer point and shoot. Dad's new camera definitely has more pixels and sharper optics. Even with its built in flash, the pictures often were darker and needed some brightening. His camera usually had fewer color cast problems needing color correction. I think with each new generation of digital cameras, the algorithms for getting white balancing right improves. Dad's camera can't use an external flash. Like my camera when using just the built-in flash, it tends to make my blonde boys look like they have dark brown hair on top because of the shadows cast on their short haired heads. My camera's secondary flash, usually bounced off the ceiling, does a better job of filling a room evenly with light, but if I'm not careful, it can wash out skin tones as it brightens the room.
Either way, the negatives can be mitigated in a decent photo editor. Hope you enjoy the results.
great pictures Scott! Brian lost his digital camera (we seem to be losing a lot around here). I hope we can find it so we can share some also, besides on our camera phone. It was great "seeing" everyone last night!!!! I am so excited that I will be able to see the kids and you more often now ;-) And hopefully I can come visit too-
