Heat - Summertime has finally made an appearance before the kids go back to school. We've had the occasional day where temperatures skirt the 90 degree range. Having so many memories of summer days over 100 with A/C units going non-stop (especially around Chicago), this has been nice. It's the first summer I can remember where our lawn didn't spend July and August dormant and brown.
Winnipesaukee - Speaking of lawns, I was planning on cutting ours today (it's been 2 weeks) but it'll have to wait until tomorrow. We've been invited to spend the afternoon up at Lake Winnipesaukee. It's been a couple of years since we last were there. Our girls are already there and after I have my morning workout Michelle, the boys, and I will drive up to join them. Today looks to be a perfect day for it with sunny, 90 degree temperatures here in southern NH. That lake water will feel nice!
Jetta - I think I mentioned that my car got a deep door ding that gouged the paint. It happened some time in the past week or so. I don't know when. While I was ordering some touch up paint, I also ordered some Monster Mats™ for my car. I don't know if they're available on all car models, but my boss had them in his Audi. Audi and VW share a lot of their designs. Anyway... I liked them because of all of the snow we get in New England. They are thick rubber mats that hold the water that melts when shoes and boots drag snow into your car. They're also custom sized for the model of your car. They latch into the existing VW/Audi floor clips so they don't shift around a lot on you.
When I got them I was excited to install them. Sadly they didn't fit right. I got this model which seems like it should work for me. Their search engine and records are wrong. It appears that what I needed are these ones which didn't show up when I punched in my make, model, and year. The customer service guy was patient on the phone. He didn't know why they didn't show up via the search engine, but shipped them out last night. Hopefully they arrive early on Monday. I've got my fingers crossed that this time things fit correctly.
San Diego - As I mentioned last time, once again I'm going to be making a trip to San Diego. Don't expect to see as many updates on this site while I'm away. Ever since I was slated to come on board the new job, there's been a new role management has planned for me to move into. Unfortunately my older role still exists albeit the demand is going down. My days in San Diego are meant to help me jump start into the things I need to familiarize myself with. It should be interesting.
TV - I know we're a bit late to come on board with it, but this past week Michelle and I have been watching Desperate Housewives, Season 1. We've watched the first five episodes so far. Years ago when I'd first heard of it, the title pushed me away. It sounded too much like it would be a Beverly Hills 90210 for the 30-something crowd. I didn't realize it had a lot of humor and mystery in each episode. We've been watching them via Hulu.com.
I simply take the miniDVI video output from my MacBook and run it to our large LCD television. I was surprised how easy it is to setup and how nice the results look. At first it's a bit weird seeing the Mac interface and Safari web browser on your television, but once you switch the Hulu web video player to go full screen, you forget that things are coming from a laptop. This playing computer video on our television originally started with Big Bang Theory when I wanted to catch up with earlier episodes I'd missed when I discovered the series. Since we don't need to do this often, it's like a poor man's AppleTV
So long for now. It's been weird not seeing the girls around our house the past few days. I look forward to seeing them again this afternoon and bringing them home tonight.
