Short Updates

Posted by Scott at 09:39 PM

Good morning! For lots o' folks (ourselves included) today is the last day of work and/or school. Who-hoo! Enjoy! 6:23am

Dropped the girls off and VPN'd into work for the day. Conference call in 15 minutes. Listening to Chicago's WFMT this morning via the Chumby. Sounds like awful weather today around the Windy City... 7:47am

Yay! Michelle's Dell Mini 10v just arrived. Must.Leave.It.Alone! 7:50am

It finally compiles and elaborates! Finally!!! Hardware design geeks know this means 1% of the battle is over. ;-P Time for a snack and then onto simulation! 12:15am

Disconnecting from the office VPN until Monday. I'll be happy not to think about Verilog, VHDL, C, Perl, etc. for four days. Welcome Christmas vacation! 5:06pm

Called the airline to ask a few last questions about their unaccompanied minors policy. It was handled by an overseas call center with the worst connection imaginable. I could barely make out the representative's responses. Now we're watching the last bits of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince". 7:15pm

Spent more time researching the things and steps needed to put the latest 'n greatest version of Mac OS X on Michelle's new Dell. I think it'll be a fun lil' project this weekend. Gotta do something while the boys are getting their fill of SuperMarioBros Wii. ;-). 9:30pm

Downloaded "Santa Baby 2". Might watch a bit as I doze off. G'Night all! 9:34pm

Bookmarks I made today:

♫Catnuts roasting on an openfire♫
Comment: When I saw this one, I couldn't help but think of the uninhibited ways I often see Jingle laying near fireplace... ;-P
Excerpt: just dont gitz 2 close.

Stem cell therapy restores British man's eyesight
Comment: And because the media rarely makes this clear: this is *adult* stem cells.
Excerpt: Russell Turnbull lost almost all the sight in his right eye after trying to break up a fight [...] he can put all that behind him now, after becoming one of the first recipients of a new stem cell grafting procedure

Hans Von Storch: Good Science, Bad Politics - WSJ.com
Comment: Favorite quote: "For me, good science means generating knowledge through a superiormethod, the scientific method. The merits of a scientificallyconstructed result do not depend on its utility for any politician'sagenda."
Excerpt: Hans Von Storch, derided in the leaked East Anglia Climatic Research Unit emails by fellow climate scientists, speaks out about the politicization of science in The Wall Street Journal Europe.
