Short Updates

Posted by Scott at 11:59 PM

Good morning! It's another brisk autumn start at 45°F. I can hear the sound of the wood stove blowing and Timothy making engine humming sounds as he races along in MarioKart Wii. The game has the sound off, but he can't help humming. It's so cute. 6:39am

Via Scientific American: Can You Hear Me Now? The Truth about Cell Phones and Cancer Physics shows that cell phones cannot cause cancer. The specific energy coming out of cell phones is far too weak to cause molecules to break and cause DNA mutations. 6:41am

It was a busy morning. Claire and I went to Golds for the muscle toning class and Step class afterwards. Michelle took the boys to Merrimack for their swim lessons. When we all got back I swapped my Pontiac Vibe rental for a Dodge Avenger rental. Then I took the family for lunch at Amigos. It is blustery outside today! 1:08pm

Click to see the book at AmazonNursing a caramel apple coffee while checking out Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Hmm. 1500 Wii points though. Knowing my boys I'd be better off saving my money for the Kirby game about to be released. 1:14pm

Given that Mobile phones have 18 times more bacteria than toilet handle I offer you How to Safely Disinfect and Clean Your Gadgets. 1:53pm

Poor Michelle. Stuck in a testosterhome this afternoon with me and the boys. Abby's at a friend's house and Claire is going to The Mall™. 2:17pm

After a few honey-do's I caught a short catnap. Now I'm updating Claire's laptop and my office laptop to the new Ubuntu 10.10 release. (I already did my MacBook several days ago). I'm not worried about the work laptop as it's only a couple of years old, but Claire's is less recent so I'm a little nervous there... 4:24pm

It's that time of year again: I shut off the supply to the sprinklers. In a few days the water lines will be blown out for the winter. As dry as this summer was, the sprinklers were of limited help when summer hit its peak. 4:26pm

Finished reading "Death Panels" this afternoon, recommended to me by my friends Jeff Miller and Sarah Reinhard. It's another dystopian novel where again government tries to achieve peace and perfection in society while numbing the masses with their propaganda. 7:58pm

Tell me Michael and Daniel wouldn't love this in their bedroom! 8:12pm

Mandelbrot died - Back when I was in grad school studying parallel computing, I loved using his work as test cases. His algorithm for computing what are known as Mandelbrot sets were amenable to splitting up and dividing among parallel computing engines. 8:26pm

Tonight I started A Year With The Church Fathers - Patristic Wisdom For Daily Living. It's one of those "one page a day" type books where the writings of the early Christian Fathers are used for reflection. The book itself is quite impressive: quality paper, lined with gold edges, leather binding. It's like a keepsake Bible you hand down through the generations. 9:07pm
