1/11/11

Posted by Scott at 09:41 PM

Good morning! It's been busy. I dropped the girls off at school and head down to Boxborough. Sunny but chilly drive in. 7°F-14°F. Thank goodness for heated seats because diesels take a bit longer to warm up. I decide to listen to Life of Mary again. I listened to it a year or two ago when it came out and wanted to listen to it again. It looks as though tomorrow many in this office will be working from home because the snow storm is nearly guaranteed. 10:38am

The iPhone comes to VerizonWent with two of my AMD friends to New London Pizza for lunch. We discussed the Qualcomm chip in the new iPhone4 on Verizon and the resignation of the AMD CEO. We also harassed one of the two friends for "pimping out" the multimedia system in his minivan as if he were an 18 year boy. 12:54am

How to explain RSS and new media to your grandma. I'll have to remember this when I come across someone whose eyes glaze over as if I'm talking about some irrelevant new technology. 1:29pm

How did I forget that today is 1/11/11? Can't wait for November 11ᵗʰ. 1:34pm

Via alyankovic: Just announced: the Verizon iPhone. Next up: Peace in the Middle East. #OneDownOneToGo 1:42pm

AnandTech does some 3D benchmarking of mobile chips. Happy to see our QC Adreno 205 is really holding its own. 1:51pm

I think I've found my next audiobook! The Politically Incorrect Guide to Socialism. Just released yesterday. I've already read the other title: The Politically Incorrect Guide to Capitalism, last year I think. 2:23pm

Listening to BOL #1384, supposedly about some big announcement. World Peace? Beatles reunion? iPhone on Verizon? 2:35pm

The CNET BOL gang just realized that the Android OS nicknames were in alphabetical order?! Éclair, froyo, gingerbread, honeycomb,... A couple of weeks ago I remember them saying ARM processors come from AMD. In both cases the simultaneous chat room quickly corrected them. 3:00pm

Whoa! Google Chrome is pulling out the common H.264 video codecs from Chrome in the upcoming months. (related link) 4:07pm

Via Ihnatko: One more ignominious defeat for AT&T tonight: despite 5 bars, my iPad couldn't send mail until I activated my Verizon MiFi. 5:39pm

Had a smooth commute home. I listened to my audiobook for the first portion then caught up with my grandma for the remainder. Michelle and Timothy were at a special religious ed class when I got home because Timothy makes his 1st Confession in a couple of weeks. It's been a quiet night overall. Milford schools have already called a snow day for tomorrow. The kids are pretty excited to have their 1st major snow day. Looking over the Doppler, the storm is just starting to cross into New England now. Should be here in southern NH in a few hours. 9:38pm
