Last Cancer Treatment

Posted by Scott at 09:24 PM

Good morning! Today is a big day! It's the last time Michelle goes into oncology for some cancer related medicine. I'm using my Employee Designated Holiday (EDH) to accompany her. The roads in some spots of southern NH are still slick today. I just heard a sand truck go down our street. Some school districts have delayed starts but Milford still seems on time. Got to get the girls to school and then drive with Michelle to oncology. 6:19am

At oncology with Michelle. Roads were wet but at least not frozen. 9:08am

Much like my former life in the USAF, oncology is filled with a lot of 'hurry up & wait'. We're waiting for the pharmacy to deliver the medicines. 11:10am

"The history of this country was made largely by people who wanted to be left alone. Those who could not thrive when left to themselves never felt at ease in America." -- Eric Hoffer in "Reflections on the Human Condition" 11:27am

EWTN to acquire National Catholic Register. Excerpt: "EWTN has signed a letter of intent to acquire the publication from its current owners, the Legion of Christ. Under the terms of the agreement, no cash will be exchanged. EWTN will take over the ongoing operational expenses of the Register and will assume its future subscription liabilities effective on February 1st." 11:32am

Nintendo 3DS hits shelves March 27 for $249! Too rich for our blood. We'll wait a while for them to make a next gen "3DS-Lite". ;-] 11:35am

While we sit here in oncology waiting for this last injection to finish, I'm studying the one thing I avoided like the plague back in grad school: databases. Specifically SQL databases. Back in grad school it seemed so boring but most web developers now depend on them to manage the content in their web sites. 1:17pm

Michelle's all done with her last cancer treatment. 1:42pm

As we were checking out of oncology, some of the nurses came to the desk to congratulate Michelle on her last medicine injection. See snapshot below with honorary tiara and pink boa. I know overall this treatment is as boring as any other, but I wanted to be with her for the last one like I was for the first ones. We ran a couple of errands on the way home and stopped at A&E Roastery for a couple of celebratory lattes. 4:04pm

When we got home I noticed the fresh ice/slush buildup at the mouth of our driveway, deposited by snow plows while we were gone. I took care of that. Man! That stuff gets heavy. Water saturated slush! I'm going to rest a bit. Busy night ahead with a Step class at Golds and RCIA at St. Pat's. 4:06pm

Via DeanClancy: “A Massachusetts Democrat just said in the House that Obamacare will create 4M jobs and reduce the deficit by $230 Billion. Alas, C-SPAN lacks a laugh track.” 4:19pm

Had a good Step 'n abs class at Golds. Showered up and went straight to RCIA. I led the exegesis on this Sunday's readings. Now to tuck the boys into bed with their prayers and grab a little to eat before I go to bed. 8:33pm

Michelle, the girls, and the twins (yes, they got out of bed after I tucked them in) watched the recent new episode of The Middle. I went downstairs for a snack and to watch a few quick video podcasts on the TiVo. Now the kids really are in bed and I must follow their lead if I'm to wake up tomorrow. Good night all! 9:24pm
