It was Friday that I remembered that I had today off for President's Day but that the kids would have school today. I was checking the archives and last year Qualcomm gave me this day off too, but I worked it so that I could use it later during the kids' winter break on the day when Michelle had to go to a chemotherapy. Thankfully this year that wasn't a concern so I got to enjoy a day with Michelle.
I took the girls to their schools and came home for a light breakfast. Afterwards Michelle and I dropped the boys off at Milford Elementary and head over to the Y. I always enjoy the opportunity to take one of Michelle's Step classes as she spends a fair amount of time each month coming up with creative new routines for her groupies, the aerobimommies. Certainly today's class didn't disappoint.
On our way back from the Y we stopped at Lowes to dispose of our compact fluorescent graveyard of bulbs. I know that they say that CFs have a longer life, but that hasn't been our experience. We got rid of dozens of bulbs from the past few years. We also bought some soon-to-be-outlawed incandescent bulbs and some hardware for the back screen door. We've had some windy days lately and the spring loaded door catch has busted. I bought a replacement catch and a couple of hook and eye latches to help it on especially blustery days.
From there we went to Bentleys in Amherst for some gyros. I wish that they were as fresh and tasty as Squabs in Melrose Park, but we take what we can get. Afterwards we stopped by A & E Coffee where we bought two of their special Crème brûlée lattes.
When we got back home I worked on the screen door, replacing the catch and adding the hooks. Soon Claire and Abby were home from school. After hearing about their day, I went downstairs to prepare for Wednesday's RCIA class and to look over today's Gospel for tonight's Opus Dei Circle.
Soon the boys got home and I set them up with their accounts on XtraMath. I relaxed a bit with episode 826 of Hak5 before dinner. After dinner we played a few rounds of Just Dance 2 on the Wii. I don't know why but I particularly enjoy watching Michelle play. It could have something to do with my fondness for her...
Soon it'll be time for my monthly Opus Dei Circle up in Bedford. It should be a nice wrap-up to this unexpected break from the usual Monday routine.
I mentioned yesterday that I had been tinkering with WebGL (the OpenGL graphics standard implemented within a browser via new emerging web standards) and made an animated demo of a spinning translucent cube with all of us on its faces. I realize that many folks don't have the browser updates needed to see it so I've included a thumbnail image of a screen grab at right. If you click the image, it'll show you a more detailed screen grab.
