Warranty Over

Posted by Scott at 11:59 PM

Good morning! A bit of a chilly one here in New England. Today my Ruby is five. It's a bit sad because it means my 5 year/100Kmiles bumper to bumper warranty is over. On the plus side, it's a great time to do that veggie oil mod I've been toying with ever since I bought the car. :-D 8:52am

I dropped the girls off at their schools. Had a sunny drive in listening to TNT #221 along the way. Now just enjoying a "bagel day" bagel while reviewing the many overnight emails. Also my tower installed 41 Win7 related updates overnight and my laptop is still working through 26 WinXP updates now. It amazes me how many accumulate in just a few weeks. It also amazes me how long it takes to install them compared to Linux. And my laptop sounds like it's going to lift off with those fans running full bore. 8:57am

Laughin' at Scenes of mall madness 1989. Oh, the 80's hair! 9:09am

59 minutes for XP to install this week's 26 updates pushed from corporate IT. And now 5-10 minutes for a reboot. 9:37am

Jeep Grand Cherokee to get 3.0L diesel V6 in US by 2013. About the time Claire will be begging me for my Jetta TDI. ;-] 10:16am

Geek talk: Thank goodness for "Data Breakpoints" but finding memory corruption on Friday at 5pm... not fun! 5:41pm

Left a little after 6pm. Smooth, sunny drive home. Caught up with my folks who are visiting Suzy 'n Brian in Bloomington and checking out their new house. Then I listened to Security Now #296 the rest of the drive. For hard core tech it's one of my favorite podcasts. Michelle is back from teaching her Cardio Blast class and the kids are playing Just Dance 2. 7:19pm

Click to see largerA look for Doctor Who I thought I'd never see. It's a bit like Cowboys and Aliens coming out this summer. Looking forward to next weekend. 8:15pm

After some cajoling from the kids, I bought three more songs for Just Dance 2 — "Come on Eileen", "Mambo Number 5", and "You Can't Hurry Love" — thus guaranteeing they don't go to bed for another half an hour at a minimum. 8:55pm

Watching a demo of Spb Mobile Shell for Android phones. In some ways it reminds me of Compiz on Linux. Gratuitous eye candy. 9:14pm

Got the boys tucked in bed with their prayers. The girls are wrapping up a few more dance songs. I'm looking at the difference between InstaPaper and ReadItLater. I've been using the latter for about a year. It's key for me to avoid excessive distraction at work. If someone mentions an article that looks interesting, rather than stopping my work completely, I'll skim the title and maybe a paragraph or two, and if it has potential, I'll push it on my ReadItLater queue. Essentially it's a "DVR for the Web". 9:17pm
