Anticipating Hurricane Irene

Posted by Scott at 11:59 PM

Good morning! Had a smooth drive in, listening to This Week in Google #109 as they discussed ChromeOS, the new Facebook privacy controls, etc. Walked over to the cafeteria to get a ‘real’ breakfast, as I'd dawdled too long this morning to have one. 9:32am

Snarkasm via rorycooper: “Wait, Warren Buffett is investing $5 billion in Bank of America? Shouldn't he give $5b to Treasury and let government invest it?” 9:42am

Looks like it's going to be a crummy weekend. I was even planning to make a nice four day vacation out of it. Ugh! Why now?! 10:12am

Via AEroasteryCafe: “Time for a little horn tooting: we were voted Best Cup of Coffee in the Souhegan Valley!” 2:53pm

Via JeffCavins: “Steve Jobs...Thank You! Thank you for your passion for excellence and the many, many hours you have focused on the details.” 2:54pm

Busy afternoon with lots of meetings. Left work around 5:30 and listened to the rest of TWiG #109 along the drive. Drove straight to Golds for the Muscle Mix class. Stopped by Subway on the way home to check how Claire is doing and get a small sub since I figured Michelle would be busy tonight. I watched a Disney sitcom with Abby and the boys and then got the boys tucked in bed with their prayers. 8:53pm

I just sent an SMS text to Claire. I know that I'm faster using Swype on my glass touch screen than I was with a real keyboard on my ol' Palm Centro, but I still prefer the tactile feedback of those keys. Just swooshing my finger across a virtual keyboard, swype'ing out words, while easy to learn, still seems weird. Still… it beats tapping out letters one by one on a touch screen. 9:17pm

Article: Steve Jobs: America’s Greatest Failure. The author reminds us about the many products Steve led that were utter failures in addition to the great things he's known for. Excerpt: “All those successes were made possible by failure after failure after failure and the lessons learned from those failures. There’s a moral here for a Washington culture that fears failure too much. Steve Jobs is a reminder that failure is a good and necessary thing. And that sometimes the greatest glories are born of catastrophe.” 10:23pm

I picked up Claire from work and now get to kick back and relax. The site will be stagnant for a few days but I'll catch up around Monday/Tuesday. Good night all! 10:23pm
