Good morning! It's back to work and school today. Claire decided to be a bit social and took the bus, but I dropped Abby off at school on the way in. Since Michelle's radiation therapy will be starting up soon, I decided this morning to kick off another Rosary novena, like I did before her surgery, to pray that the treatment kills any residual local cancer cells (if any) while minimizing the side effects. Holy Mother, intercede for this mother. Afterwards I listened to a bit of Fr. Seraphim in Catholic under the Hood #265 - Saving Husserl’s Nachlass.
Forgot to mention earlier: Michelle is at Golds Gym, teaching her 20/20/20 class for the first time since her excision surgery. Her range of motion for her right arm will be limited a bit, but overall she is eager to get some of her cardio back to routine. I'm happy for her and honestly just a bit nervous that she doesn't overdo it.
The Gospel of Tolerance: You Must Approve. Excerpt: “The Gospel of Tolerance requires that you have no objection to that which it says must be tolerated. In fact, it requires that you not even question that which it says must be tolerated. Noncompliance will not be tolerated.”
Explaining the Reality of Marriage in Secular Terms.
Was a bit relieved that Michelle's afternoon appointment with her oncologist was considered a bit redundant and postponed until she's midway through her radiation therapy. I was concerned that perhaps the oncologist had some new revelation/complication she wanted to discuss today. Instead it was a routine visit to check on status. Since the surgeon has been monitoring her recently, today's appointment was cancelled.
Walked over to the cafeteria to pick up lunch. It's still very blah outside: overcast, drizzly, ~63°F. Yup, the three day weekend is definitely over.
Trading Tricks. Sad! Excerpt: “[the authors...] found that about one in 30 tricks performed by a prostitute is a freebie to the police in return for avoiding arrest. In other words, a prostitute is more likely to have sex with an on-duty police officer than to be arrested by one.”
Rainy drive north, listening to a podcast along the way. Now about to start an Opus Dei Evening of Recollection.
Back from tonight's Evening of Recollection. Our regular priest wasn't there so we had "Father Sal", one of the priests probably formed in Spain. Because of his accent, following along was a bit more difficult but not too bad. I got to read the Examination of Conscience aloud in the middle of the events. It was like dusting off my atrophied years of lectoring skills.
I had a rainy drive back from St. E's and had to stop along the way for one of my twice a month diesel fill-ups. When I got back home the house was dark and quiet. One thing I was happy to find was that my copy of Father Barron's new book, Catholicism: A Journey to the Heart of the Faith had finally arrived, fresh off the presses so to speak. I look forward to digging into it soon. If you've never heard him before, visit his YouTube video channel. He's very pastoral and articulate in commenting on current events, answering difficult questions, and defending the Faith. He also has an upcoming special series on PBC this fall.
