Good morning! Soon it'll be time to seal up the house. Out of nowhere suddenly it's going to be a hot one today with temperatures around 95°F. Michelle and Maria plan to take the family up to Lake Sunapee today. I'll be dropping my car off at LDN for its annual inspection and carpooling into work.
A silly tidbit I learned: on my birthday later this month there will be a leap second. The last time that there was one on my birthday was before Abby was born.
I forgot to mention yesterday that as I was heading out for work, our neighbor's chickens were roaming in the corner of our yard. Personally I'd be happy to see them wander around as long as they eat a few ticks when they visit.
Focus on clean water, not global warming Bjorn Lomborg, author of “The Skeptical Environmentalist,” says the Rio+20 summit will be a wasted opportunity and that the U.N. is focused on the wrong things. He says that for every person who might die from global warming, 210 will die from health problems caused by a lack of clean water and pollution.
Local news: Dramatic river rescue in Albany saves 12-year-old Milford girl.
One of my absolute favorite Android options gets a major update: Swype for Android Updates with Predictive Text, a Learning Keyboard, Dictionary Editing, and More.
Do I want the new Qualcomm SnapDragon 8960 in the Sprint Samsung Galaxy III incarnation or in the HTC EVO 4G LTE. Hmm. Decisions... decisions... I'm still leaning towards the HTC because my current HTC has been great and a real workhorse.
I just bought: 'True Freedom: On Protecting Human Dignity and Religious Liberty' by Timothy Cardinal Dolan. It's a short eBook, but only 99 cents.
Dial up the wayback machine to 1988 and see leading edge computing back then... How Icaros Desktop brings the Amiga experience to x86 PCs. Back at that time you had most college students with their PCs and 286's, the few wealthy ones with their Macs, and those who could really “Think Different” (sorry Apple) with the Commodore Amiga.
There's just something about when you're developing a new mode or feature in graphics, and you finally get the last bits o' math right, and... ta-da it finally renders correctly. Especially if you've suffered through multiple iterations of complete garbage renders. It deserved a trip to the kitchen for coffee and a Mounds bar. ;-]
I'm in an office that is overcompensating A/C-wise so I decided to check the weather back in Milford. Weather Underground says it's 95°F with a heat index of 106°F. I would expect that in late July and early August, but not the first day of summer. «insert crazy global warming claim here»
I got off the phone with Maria as Michelle is driving everyone back home. They all had a great time at Lake Sunapee. When they get home, they'll swing by my mechanic and pick up my car.
Left work after 6:30 with my coworker. Michelle and Maria brought my Jetta home after they returned from the beach, so I could come straight home.
Julian Assange's Supporters Screwed. I must avoid schadenfreude… It's an ugly vice.
I got the boys tucked in bed with their prayers. They all have spots of sunburn here and there where the sunblock wore off. Every night I also help Michelle with a special lotion (Aquaphor) she puts on her hands to make sure the chemo doesn't ruin them. At the suggestion of my friend Anirudh, I'm going to take a peek at NetBeans and then get some sleep. Good night all!
“But when you give alms,
do not let your left hand know what your right is doing,
so that your almsgiving may be secret.
And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.” — Matthew 6
