Literally

Posted by Scott at 11:59 PM

Good morning! Is it really only Thursday?! I dropped the older four off at their schools and went for a quick breakfast at Cafe on the Oval. Michelle went to 7:30 Mass and then took Timothy to school. Later this morning she's off to an Opus Dei Circle. I had a smooth commute down to Boxborough. I listened to the latest CD of the Month which talked about religious liberty in America. 9:35am

Regarding today's Gospel St. Josemaria said this: “The power of obedience! The lake of Genesareth had denied its fishes to Peter's nets. A whole night in vain. Then, obedient, he lowered his net again to the water and they caught 'a huge number of fish'. Believe me: the miracle is repeated each day.” 9:38am

Via SarcasticJefferson: “So, we're shifting government's primary role from protecting natural rights to engineering material fairness? Yup, this should end well.” 9:46am

Video: The trailer for part II of Atlas Shrugged is out. Some may say, "oh that's silly! It wouldn't happen here." But then, couldn't it? 10:00am

Via pourmecoffee: “Today in 1941 German Jews were ordered to wear yellow Stars of David. Stop comparing politicians you just don't like to Hitler.” Yes, both left and right. Please stop. There's political criticism, and then there's Godwin's law. 10:20am

Today’s Democratic Party, Where God Gets Boos and Abortion Gets a Standing Ovation. 10:55am

So in the first two days of the DNC convention with over 80 speeches from the floor, global warming was mentioned only once in passing. I guess it just stops being a major concern when we have a democrat president? Or maybe he has "healed the planet"? 11:45am

Smirking and agreeing: Alveda King (activist and niece of Dr. M.L. King) says bashing natural family planning but eating organic food is like dieting and then sitting around eating Oreos! Indeed, what common pill is considered by the World Health Organization as a Group I carcinogen to humans? 11:55am

17 Photos from the Occupy Wall Street folks protesting outside the DNC convention. 12:37pm

Interesting. Skimming about this concept of Twitter 'cards'. These are those snazzy previews one can now see in Twitter. I may look into it this weekend. 6:04pm

Left work later than I'd like. Oh well. At least tomorrow's Friday. 7:33pm

I've heard some pretty silly plot ideas for a movie, but this one... Grabbers. Plot summary: “When an island off the coast of Ireland is invaded by bloodsucking aliens, the heroes discover that getting drunk is the only way to survive.” 7:57pm

Netflix linkExcited that For Greater Glory will be available for rent next week... 8:05pm

I remember when I was coming home Tuesday night, Rt. 101 going east from Rt. 13 was closed. I was going west, of course, but wondered what was going on. This explains it. 8:54pm

Last week I mentioned we had been considering switching to Ting this fall because we could move Sprint phones there. Now comes news that Ting will be the first MVNO to support Sprint's LTE network, weak coverage as it is at the moment. Sprint's LTE 4G coverage is about as sparse as their earlier WiMax 4G that they gloated about two years ago. Still I think Sprint will put more effort into LTE 4G than they did with WiMax. 9:13pm

I've been a bit of an 'old school' geek for a while, (command line, Perl, Emacs, etc.) but using Cathode might be over the top. Ah, what the heck. Relive the olden days of computing, sitting at an ol' terminal hanging off of a serial port. 10:02pm

Literally Comments from the Twitter-sphere as Vice President Biden speaks at the DNC Convention:

Via linorulli: “Hey was there a drinking game every time Joe Biden said «literally» and no one told me about it?” 10:11pm

Via nickgillespie: “Dear Joe Biden: It's not courage to rob young workers to pay for unsustainable old-age entitlements paid regardless of wealth. It's theft.” 10:12pm

“After he had finished speaking, he said to Simon,
‘Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.’
Simon said in reply,
‘Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing,
but at your command I will lower the nets.’
” — Luke 5
