Back to Business as Usual

Posted by Scott at 11:59 PM

Good morning! 'Tis a bit of a sad day. I said goodbye to Gina and my dad before taking the older four to school. Dad hits the road and Gina will fly home in a few hours. After dropping the kids off, I stopped by Cafe on the Oval for a quick breakfast. 9:04am

Had a smooth drive down to Boxborough. I listened to a podcast with Q&A about Church history on the drive. It was funny how so many questions could have been their own two hour show. Galileo, Crusades, etc. I felt a bit bad for the professor in that regard. 9:06am

I've mentioned it before but at the debate the President once again parroted the lie that Planned Parenthood provides mammograms, playing off of women's concerns about breast cancer. They don't. They just don't. 9:28am

Via baseballcrank: “Has anybody polled how many Americans believe high gas prices are a sign of a good economy? That's totally gonna save Obama.” 10:13am

“To become a Catholic is not to leave off thinking, but to learn how to think.”

Student Debt sigh At $32,440, New Hampshire once again tops in nation in average student debt. Interesting stat about the nearby Thomas More College in Merrimack. 10:38am

Walked over to the cafeteria for a salad. On the way over I called Michelle to check how she was holding up after saying goodbye to her sister at the airport. She told me a cute story. Evidently she and Gina also went to Cafe on the Oval for one last breakfast before Michelle took Gina to the airport. After Michelle placed her order, the waitress said, “That's the same thing your husband ordered earlier this morning.” 12:45pm

Kind of related to yesterday's stove purchase (and our earlier dishwasher replacement): White appliances challenge the supremacy of stainless steel. Hey, as long as avocado doesn't come back… 1:00pm

Video: It's not what you drive, it's how you drive it. A cute TopGear video of a Prius vs. a BMW in a MPG war. 1:22pm

“Do either Barack Obama or his followers have any idea how many countries during the 20th century set out to 'spread the wealth' — and ended up spreading poverty instead? At some point, you have to turn from rhetoric, theories and ideologies to facts.” Thomas Sowell 2:50pm

Didn't get out until after 6:30pm. Called dad who was about to cross the OH/PA line and find a hotel in Youngstown. Meanwhile Gina was on her connection flight. I listened to an audiobook the rest of the way, learning a bit about the Jim Jones tragedy. 7:30pm

Is Qualcomm the New AMD? Or the Next Intel? Excerpt: “Qualcomm also showed success where AMD failed. It bought a mobile graphics unit from AMD, which came as part of the ATI acquisition, for $65 million in 2009. That unit became Qualcomm's Adreno line of mobile GPUs.” 9:00pm

“The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few;
so ask the master of the harvest
to send out laborers for his harvest.”
