Good morning! Today is the one year anniversary of my mom's passing. Back in River Grove several family members are attending a special Mass in her honor. Michelle is about to take Claire to one of her last driver's ed classes. I just watched Leo Laporte's Unboxing of his Windows RT Surface. I know it's hard to get excited about Microsoft, but like WinPhone, I'm hearing some good things about the Surface tablet. Unlike the claims people make about Samsung, it isn't just an iPad clone.
I'm back from a good Step class and core strength class. Abby is out all day at another NESBA competition.
Pretty lazy afternoon. Claire worked on her Halloween costume. She's trying to make her costume from scratch and bought several yards of the fabric she needs. She's been cutting and sewing most of the afternoon. I helped Timothy install the new Ubuntu 12.10 on his laptop. Soon we'll be heading to Mass.
Went with most of the family to 4 o'clock Mass. Hung out afterwards with the Rolanti's. Eventually headed over to Amigos. It was the last restaurant my mom ever went to, just days before she checked into the hospital. Meanwhile back in the Chicago area several of my family members are having a dinner with my dad at Tom's Steak House. That restaurant always had a special meaning to my folks as it's where they had their first date.
Claire got a call a little after 7 o'clock. One of the employees got sick while on duty and needed a sub. Just as I was thinking how nice it was going to be to go to bed early tonight... Oh well.
Dozens and dozens of times I ask Michelle, “Just checking: did you take your pills?” I was starting to feel like a broken record. For once tonight Michelle responded, “Oh my goodness! I forgot. Thank you!” The discussion Michelle had with Abby about doing a sleepover when we got home from Amigos broke her train of thought.
An update to Cathode came out. It even seems to have fixed the Emacs bug it used to have. I'm wondering if I'll be able to run it without the laptop fan kicking in since it makes generous usage of the GPU to get those old school CRT terminal effects... It is so retro nerdy!
Back at Subway to pick up Claire. Can't help but believe this is the calm before the storm. The current forecast shows rain until the end of the week as "Sandy" gets stalled over the northeast.
